I know that there's an old thread from 2012 regarding the leg room in the 60 series, no real solution though. I'm 6'2" and need more leg room as I'm tired of sucking on my kneecaps.

Does anyone know of a bracket out there that will add a few more inches to the slide?

There is a more recent thread where one of the vendors is making extended brackets for the 60 series (was doing 80series before) and has some decent reception from that. Look for custom bracket thread in the last couple weeks.

A new bottom seat cushion from SOR will lift you a few inches and provide some additional leg room. Plus, your a$$ will thank you.

I had the seats rebuilt to include new foam. The problem with adding height is that I am already about an inch or two away from the ceiling.

That's why I just decided to be 5'7, easiest way to go about it imho

I wondered about this issue and never before seen anyone complain about it. I'm 5'11" and I always have the seat at the furthest back stop- so it never bothered me, but I've often wondered how such a large truck could have such restricted legroom...and felt bad for owners taller than I am.

I installed a different seat and moved the seat back on the brackets when I welded. I'm 6'5" with no issues now.

Regarding the stock seats. They bolt to the rails. It would be easy to make a bracket moving the seat back with two pieces of angle iron. Not hard if you have an angle grinder and a hand drill...

A BMW 3-series seat swap will give you more travel back from the stock position, if you were inclined to go that way.

Is this every BMW 3 series from the beginning of time, or is there a certain model year range

Just find a old fj45 pickup and drive it for a bit.....never will complain about the 60 leg room again. Better yet....try a short bed fixed top....

Oddly the(more than a 100 or 200) cruiser with the most leg room is a 45 wagon....I can't push the pedals all the way down with the seat to the rear....

Interesting about the 45 wagon. FJ/BJ40 are also very sparse with legroom, even less than 60 series. I got extended seat brackets made by TLC about 10 years ago, and now have more than enough leg room in the FJ62. (With 35 inch inseam, 6'5") New seat foam does give a big lift too. I used to think 60 series had tons of head room, now it's just enough.

I know this is an old thread but I was looking for more leg room in the 60 and was not finding any good solutions so I decided to see what I could do.

  • First I removed the drivers seat and flipped it upside down on a stack of buckets.
  • Then I cut some 1 inch steel flat stock to 14 3/8 inches.
  • I drilled it to fit the seat and again 2 inches forward.
  • I bolted the bracket to the seat and bolted the slider to the bracket using a stack of washers on the front to clear the seat bolt head. This gives the added benefit of slightly reclining the seat bottom.
  • Last I re-installed the seat and gave it a try. Wow what a difference in knee and ankle angles!

I hope this will help someone else here in the future. Just trying to give back to a group that has been so much help over the years.

Seriously? did you buy one of the specialty short bus versions? Im 6’3” 230 pounds and I have zero issues. Even when I had the stock seats. Is there something stuck in the rails, stopping you from fully pushing the seat back?

I think it has a lot to do with leg length. I'm only 6'1" but 36" inseam and driving for more than 2 or 3 hours without a break kills my hips. Lot of "manspreading" going on. Looking forward to the interior portion of the resto. Might try this @oldwineo!

I’m also 6’3” and 230 lbs with a 34” inseam. With my seat pushed all the way back I have no leg room. A new seat is a definite future change. Also because I am so cramped and their is no thigh support things get pretty tiring on long trips.

I'm getting to be a broken record - changing out my seats to the BMW 3 series about a month ago has made all the difference in comfort, in both positioning and ride. I am 6' 1" and 280, standard fat boy specs. If I move the driver seat back all the way, I can't touch the gas pedal. I did take out the left foot rest, and in the seat position which is most comfortable for me, my left foot can't touch the firewall, without extending my ankle. I no longer have to brace myself for turns to avoid sliding or leaning - the difference between a barstool and a top fuel drag car seat.

Even with the seat up where it is, the leg room of the rear seat is about what I had in the back seat of my Alfa Romeo Spyder when I was 18. Essentially, a two seat, four door vehicle.

Too funny. I actually had a 74 spider when I was in HS. Was a beautiful car and where I was forced to learn how to perform road side fixes :)
