I thought the HIR bulbs just used less power rather than being brighter. Afterall they are still halogen bulbs.

Yeah, I can almost always tell when a LED lit vehicle is coming my way. The tree tops and road shoulders are overly lit up and so is my windshield. LED lights are not meant to be used with halogen housings, neither are HID lights. HIR work very similar to Normal halogens so they work in the same housing. LED and HID are meant to be used in a projector housing.

Horrible pattern with LifeTime LED high/low beam pattern in stock housing:

That's not true. There are (were?) tons of factory HID cars that use a regular reflector. Of course it's designed for HID and the beam pattern is just fine. My IS300 had great HID reflector headlights.

Slapping LED bulbs of any design into a halogen housing is asking for trouble in every single example I have seen. I have done it on my 80 and could never get anything close to a good beam pattern. I spent a lot of time adjusting and experimenting. Those shots of the garage door above might not look like a big difference to some people but the LED one is really terrible and puts far less light on the road.

Oh, DUDE! Don't you know, it's ALL about having those LEDS! Ya gotta have them. They're even more important than.....

LOCKERS!!

But I do recommend the HID upgrade, seriously.

Totes, dude...and could you please retype your post on your phone using your nose and your big toe, so that none of us can deduce what the hell you're saying like in the first post? That's always fun.

Decided to try some similar LED's.

Bought these for my 97: 2016 Cree LED headlight Kit 9006 HB4 60W 6000K 7600LM bulbs Pair white | eBay

For kicks, I installed them in my son's 94 to see what he thinks and now I just ordered another set for the 97. These really light up everything (especially peripherally) so much better than the stock halogens or HIR's. These really make driving at night safer and better.

Haven't had anyone flash their highlights either. How long will they last? Only time will tell.

Just curious for those that are running LEDs in their driving lights or offroad lights, do they generate enough heat to melt ice and snow?

I know the halogen bulbs - and I imagine the HIR bulbs - create a built in defroster for those freezing rain/snow days here in the midwest.

I am trying to get our 96 LC back on the road for my daughter and was thinking about changing out the bulbs.

Thanks

I'm still waiting the day I can replace my halogen bulb with some LED type that give me this performance ..

The cutoff can only be achieved with projectors. You can have LEDs or HIDs in them. LEDs are better though.

Very accurate statement, I concur. I am befuddled with the LED movement as of late. Everyone gotta have LED bars, LED headlamps....dang, they're everywhere.

My trucklite are not projector type and have a very nice cutoff ..

Just to add another thing to think about; be very careful installing LEDs if you live in an area that gets snow. I had them in my 80 and 100 and they were great except when snow was falling. The light bounces off the falling flakes and back at the driver. Light snow fall feels like white out conditions. VERY dangerous in even medium snow fall. I finally started carrying around the OEM style bulbs in the glove box. When the winter weather rolled around I would swap out the bulbs until spring.

I remember when I used to deliver cars to media publications, one of our clients was VW/Audi... The Audis were the first to outfit their headlights with the LED accents. Now every single new car I see has LED accents.

I can see that exactly. With the better peripheral vision with the LED's, all the snowflakes are being lit up essentially making it look like a white out condition.
