I installed slcfj62's custom harness, Hella glass housings, and higher wattage bulbs. I am happy with the setup.

Unfortunately he is not making the harness anymore so you'd have to make your own or get a harness from another supplier. There are a few other harnesses that work that people have used. They would have to chime in or you'd have to search a little.

I have @Racer65 led lights with @slcfj62 harness. It's been 3 years since I have put them in and they work great! I wouldn't think twice about the price difference in these lights because they are of high quality. The only thing that I would consider is if you drive in snow, I would get the heated Trucklite ones, I have been in a couple of situations with snow caked on my lights and I am at a point where I can't stop to wipe them off because it would be dangerous with the road conditions. This has only happened once a year since I have put the lights in, but it is something to consider.

If you don't live where it snows or don't drive your 60 in the snow at night. Don't worry about it. Go with City Racer.

Given the different style headlights on the 60's and 62's .....

Can anyone recommend rectangular LED headlights (are happy with light output, reasonably priced and easy to install ) that work for the 62's ?.

I use these and I'm quite happy with them. Beam pattern isn't as crisp as I'd like, but it's rare that someone flashes their brights at me, and I figure it's mostly just because my truck is SOA and the headlights are really high off the ground…

Just my 2 cents.......If you install the City Racer LED's (or any other LED's. for that matter), the current draw is so low, you don't need the relay setup. I have the stock wiring, and the City Racer lamps are SHAZAM! I have one of the much-more-expensive Trucklites on my Ural and the build quality of the City Racer's is comparable and I like the beam pattern better.

How do these work with the 62 when the outer lights are low beams and the inner lights are high beams? Do you have pictures?

I built a harness that rewires them to a 4-low 4-high configuration so when low beams are on, all four of them light up, and when high beams are on, same thing, 4 rectangles of fury.

I've been getting this question more frequently as the cost of LED headlights has come down out of the stratosphere. They are now just a little more expensive than the best Halogen headlights, and so there is a lot more interest in them. Before you whip out your credit card, there are a couple of things you need to know.

First and foremost, Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are still diodes and will work only when the DC voltage polarity is correct. In other words, the minus (-) goes to ground and the plus (+) goes to 12 volts (or 24 volts if your vehicle is so equipped). Herein lies the problem with your FJ60 or FJ62. Toyota diverged from the rest of the automotive world and wired these vehicles with "hot common" for the headlight circuits. So, when you turn your headlights on, 12 volts goes to the "common" connector of the headlight. The other two connectors--the high and low beam connectors--go to the high/low beam selector in your steering column turn signal stalk which completes the path to ground for the headlight high or low beam headlight circuit. What this means for you is that when you install your shiny new LED headlights, the polarity at the headlight will be reversed and the headlights won't work, no matter what the sales pitch said. Swearing won't help either. Neither will rearranging the terminals in the headlight connector.

Secondly, the High Beam Indicator in your dash gets it's 12 volts through the low beam elements in the headlights when the high/low beam selector is on high beam. Even if you could somehow rearrange the terminals in the headlight connector so that the LED headlight functioned correctly (which you can't), the high beam indicator in the dash will never turn on which will fail your safety inspection if your state requires that.

Thirdly, LED headlights are extremely efficient and generate almost no heat. This means that if you ever drive in a snow storm at night, you will be stopping frequently to wipe the snow off your headlights because it won't melt off. Hardly something you want to be doing in those conditions. I believe Truck-Lite makes a military version of their LED headlights with a heater in the headlight bezel, but I haven't heard that any commercial headlights have that. So, if you think you will ever be driving in a snow storm at night, you might want to see if the headlights you have in mind will melt off the snow.

The bottom line is LED headlights are not plug and play for your FJ60 or FJ62. Period. You will need an after market headlight harness specifically built to convert your headlight circuit to ground common instead of hot common. The harness will also have to supply 12 volts back to the high beam indicator in the dash.
Thanks for posting this. I just purchased an LED set from City Racer, that came with a reverse polarity module. Everything mounted up really easy, but only have high beams, even when low beam is selected. Spoke to company, their only answer was to send new modules. Do you have any other ideas while I wait on the new modules? The old lamps were working, in high and low. Voltage seems normal. 1984 FJ60 Land Cruiser.

I have a pair of Sinoparcel H4 LED drop-ins in my Hella H4 housings, and I have to say, they're pretty nice. There is still some "bleed over" as compared to halogen bulbs, but not much at all. These were specifically mimic the direction of light output of H4 bulbs, and do that pretty well. I have heard though that in most US DOT factory H4 housings the beam pattern is awful. Honestly I like them for my 62, and haven't once had someone flick their high beams at me when driving at night. The big caveat that'll lead me to going back to halogens (until I can afford the JW Speaker assemblies) though is the fact that they're much cooler than halogens, and won't be able to prevent frost and snow buildup on the housings during the winter months. Given the area I live, that's a deal breaker for a permanent installation.

I just searched for these on Amazon and could not find the H4.

I’d love to try some in my 55. The stark LED I have in my Hella housings are just a huge splash of light. Zero focus.

These are the ones, but it says unavailable now. Interesting. No clue how other drop-ins would do. These were the only ones I was willing to try because of the copious negative reviews of others out there.

So you can tell when you turn on the high beams?

Yeah it was pretty apparent with these. What surprises me about the JW Speaker assemblies is the H4 units are a low beam only. No low/high like typical H4 headlights.

I have city racer lights, love them, just wish my high beam indicator worked.
