Does anyone have a rec on campsite w/in reasonable daily hiking distance of a good spot to fly fish (wade preferred, bank okay)? Never been to the area. My wife and I are avid fly fishers, and in order to get her to come (and avoid anger by going solo on a third hunting/camping trip this year) I need to bribe w/ good fishing opportunities since she won't want to wheel whole trip. @ntsaint does it conflict or is this a rhetorical question?

LCDC has been the same weekend the last 5 years.

FJ Summit was two weeks earlier two years ago. It's slated for the week prior this year.

HITH hasn't been announced yet to my knowledge but last year it was the week prior as well (though it got cancelled).

The HITH website still has 2020 information, fwiw.

I love people on the internet.

The fact that you don't know if it conflicts answers my question. Thanks
Why should the fact if I know whether or not someone checked answer your question? I didn't plan the LCDC.

Lodging is FCFS, so book your space early and it doesn't really matter.

If it conflicts with something else, take your pick what you're going to do. Or if you don't like the crowds, then don't go. I don't expect Cody to move the LCDC because my daughter has summer school one year, and I don't expect him to try and coordinate with FJ Summit, HITH, Jeep Jamboree, COFA, and the dozen other major events that happen during the summer.

Maybe you don't, but maybe the organizers of the destination club should've? Just a thought.

Did it occur to anyone to check the date and location against other large events? Namely HiH and 100+ trucks? Or did you just not care?

Hi Andy, we did research other events and none came up in our search for conflicting events. Event websites, social and other avenues... Stan emailed us privately to communicate, if you have any further concern can you please email us as well so we can stay focused on our event here? We are all Land Cruiser folks so I'm sure we can figure this out.

Nope. LCDC don’t need to do this. Ouray is a town and not owned by any other event happening there. The town do welcome event to bring in more tourism. The trail surround the area is open to public and everyone can enjoy it.

Nah i'm good. Thx. I feel better now that I know you checked the website for HIH, didn't see any 2021 dates, then moved on.

Best of luck with the club event.

Our organizers have ALWAYS considered known conflicts, so I think they deserve the benefit of doubt here.

I think you are missing the point. Large event coordinators should coordinate with other large events to make the experience more enjoyable for everyone. No fun to have two large events in the same place at the same time creating bottlenecks and crowds.

Except this time, when apparently they didn't?

Still waiting on someone to say 'yeah we reached out via email and phone to HIH organizers but couldn't get them' or 'we talked to Stan/Chris prior to setting our dates and all is good.' But neither of those things happened apparently?

This isn't hard or complicated. Stan and Chris are not hard to get in touch with. And HIH is (reliably) the week after FJ Summit every year.

@sdnative gets it with his post above.

2 time HIHer.......(6 and 9), first time LCDC attempted attendee. Is it as hard to get into LCDC as it is HIH? How many vehicles attended last years event?

Did you not see Cody's response....?

I hope all will rest assured that organizers agree with careful planning and take these into consideration wherever possible. LCDC is a fairly major event now, nearing 10 times the first year number.

On the other hand, we will always see HUNDREDS of other off roaders in town and spread out over the many trails in the area...and yet we’ve always managed really well.

Other factors help:
Ouray only has so many rooms and camp sites as a small town, so there is a natural limiting factor that happens.

We can expect rooms and sites to be full each year, so it’s not like any particular second group is make or break.

Just be on the mailing list and be on the forums. If I remember correctly last year they sold out in less than 24hrs.

@ntsaint Here's what we did do both a while back when we were weighing options for dates and before making our official announcement:
  • Checked for registered, permitted events with USFS (and I have an email from USFS that had FJ Summit and Hard Rock 100 on the list but not HIH)
  • Checked official websites
  • Checked social media
  • Checked forums for 2021 threads (we subsequently learned that dates were mentioned somewhere in the 2020 thread but we didn't come across those)

Here's what we did not do:
  • Personally reach out to the HIH organizers ahead of time; however, they did not reach out to us either. This is something we're open to handling more productively and as Cody said plan on talking to Stan.

I’m not worried about the hotels.
If you concern traffic on trail, it’s all about sharing. Even with huge event like FJ summit, the trail still open to public.

HITH haven’t announced yet. Can’t we all wait till the announcement? You try to create a fuzz out because you assume LCDC & HITH happen at the same time at 2 different town. Even if this true, the trail still public and not close to private event.

so no consideration at all for the event that is always the week after FJ Summit, and no consideration for the guys that put it on.

Noted.

I have let this go on a bit but you continue to hammer and distract from this thread. Your tone has been negative. I understand your question, but you essentially are attacking people who volunteer a tremendous amount of time to put on a great event

You asked your question, made several points and continue to be negative. Please refrain from any more or I will delete all associated posts

Its ok to ask the question, being attack focused and continue to hammer on it isnt

I am looking forward to this event. Planning on coming along with the daughters of Romer and my Nephew. Same crew I had at last years event
