Man am I glad to have found this post.

Bought and lx with unidentified aftermarket HU. It soon wigged out and died. Bought the only aftermarket one in the country I could find. Nightmare getting that going, was pretty average, now it’s wigged out and died a year and a day after purchasing it.

My wife will also soon wig out and die if I can’t fix the bloody thing as it’s winter here and she can’t demist/she s*** when dark, cold or raining.

Is there anyone here rocking one of these Phoenix systems in an RHD 03-07 LX?

I’m in Australia and fear there will be subtle differences that will cause the friken wing mirror to retract the wrong way and snap it’s self off. At least that’s what the wife reckons happened after the last eBay HU we put in.

What system from Phoenix is most reliable/stable, I noticed there are options. Don’t want anything fancy just something to be able to demist the windscreen with.

I have a JDM 04 LC and bought the G6 about a year and a half ago.

Once I finally figured out the sound settings, it has been pretty good. I rewired an aftermarket camera as well.

The only problems are that the rear defrost and the heated mirrors don’t work. Everything else is fine.

It has been mentioned before but it is a nightmare to get all the wiring and harnesses tucked away when installing but it will eventually fit.

Hello all, I purchased one of these radios for my landcruiser some time ago. I have an 02 with the integrated climate control. I cannot get the climate controls to work. The radio works just fine and so does the CarPlay. The canbuses that i was given say “lx470” on them and there are two wiring harnesses coming from the vehicle that are not connected. I assume that these two disconnected wires are causing my problems. Does anyone know if a can bus from an lx470 will work on the Land Cruiser? If they won’t work, does anyone know where i can purchase the correct canbus? Thank you so much for your help.

I think all LX power antennas work this way as mine does the same but the manual antenna button does not retract the antenna all the way down, the antenna still comes up a little over an inch at it's lowest setting. It only retracts fully once the vehicle is turned off. Would be nice if it didn't come up at all until the radio function is selected but it's not bugging me too much at this point.
My 06 LX antenna does exactly same thing.

All, I’m attempting to install the tesla style radio in my 02 LC. The kit that i got has canbus units that say “lx470” and i cannot get the climate controls to work with the current configuration. Radio works perfectly. There are also two pigtails/wiring harnesses on the vehicle side that don’t have a corresponding pigtail/wiring harness to plug into on the radio side.

Do i need to do some splicing? Any direction would be very helpful. Thank you

Photo no. 3 shows the two factory harnesses that are unused at the top of the screen.
Photos 4-6 show the canbus and corresponding wires.
Photo 7 is just showing the factory harnesses again.

Hello. I was finally going to install a screen in my car. Got it from Phoenix and they got the pictures of the dash and all. But when taking the car apart I realized that it was all wrong. My Aircon unit didn't fit, it was an older one I think. The car is from 2004. The black box will never fit. I the triend to install the harness and see if I could at least fire up the screen. I could mount one plug.

So I guess there's nothing to do but to put it back together. I emailed phoenix being quite unhappy. I don't know if I have to send it back or maybe it could be a different harness.. 😏 Anyone got an idea of what the options are?

Good day.

Thomas..

You don’t need a phoenix Tesla style radio because your climate control buttons aren’t integrated into a screen.
Tesla style phoenix radios are those cruisers that have climate control buttons integrated into map screen.
Luckily for your car, you can use any regular android stereo.

You're very lucky, I would WAY prefer to have had the manual buttons and a standard smart screen then the tesla style screen. Even though I had a very successful install and it's working great.

I don't feel very lucky, I already have the Teslascreen and was really looking forward to it. What are my options? Return it and get another unit? Or can I get another Aircon box?

Return it and get literally any brand name stereo with out going through all of the hassle of the Tesla style screen. There are people on here that have spent years tracking down what your truck came with from the factory and then converting their truck over to your setup so they can run a regular aftermarket stereo. You won the lottery and don't seem to realize it.

I recently installed one of the Tesla screens after the factory nav screen cracked in my 2007 lx. I was eyeing them for a while and had heard about the airbag light issue for 2006 and later trucks. Here is the solution that worked for me. Hopefully this also works for the late model LC and non-US guys.

This is a picture of the passenger side of the factory system. These connectors are what links the passenger airbag light to the rest of the air bag system. Your Tesla system will replace both of these with new connectors but is missing wires, resulting in a failed SRS check and dashboard airbag MIL.

These are the Tesla replacements. To solve the airbag light issue, you need to add two wires where indicated.

If you're like me, you won't have the necessary wires/pins laying around. Luckily, your Telsa unit came with two versions of the harness in question: a "high" configuration that you use for LC/LXs with a nav system and the "low and medium" configuration that isn't used. The low and medium version has wires with pins that fit the male connector to the passenger airbag indicator. In my case, the other end did not have pins that fit the connector to the factory harness. My solution was to cut two wires from the unused harness at the end that I didn't want (i.e., cut the end opposite the connector to the passenger airbag light indicator and remove the pin ends from the unused connector) and to use posi-taps to tap these into the factory harness wires that correspond to the marked pin holes above. In my factory harness, that meant I tapped pin 2 to a blue/black wire and pin 3 to a brownish wire. Once done, you will have 4 total wires going to the passenger airbag indicator (the two that came with your Tesla unit plus the two you just added). I have also asked my seller to send an updated harness so I can remove the taps later and will post a pic of the updated harness if they send one. Hopefully they will start shipping these with the pins already included at some point to address the issue.

Before putting it all back together, connect your passenger airbag indicator light and test for normal operation. The dashboard airbag light should turn on for about 6 seconds during the SRS test when you first turn on the car, and then it should shut off. After the SRS test is complete, the passenger airbag indicator light should be off (i.e., neither "off" or "on" illuminated) when the passenger seat is empty. With light pressure on the passenger seat (~30 lbs, but I can't remember the exact number from the FSM), "off" should be illuminated. With the weight of an adult in the passenger seat, "on" should be illuminated. If your light is displaying "off" when an adult is in the seat and "on" when there is light pressure on the seat, your pin 2 and pin 3 are reversed. Switch them and retest. The passenger seat belt indicator should be off when the seat is empty or occupied with the belt buckled and illuminated if the seat is occupied and the belt is unbuckled.

Once everything is confirmed working, button it all back up and enjoy your Tesla screen. I think it's a solid upgrade to the original system if you are willing to put in the time to set it up. As an aside, I bought mine from Phoenix Automotive. Everything functions as it should after some time fiddling with the settings and pulling the front seat to tap into the TV ECU for the reverse cam feed from the OEM camera as shown earlier in this thread. Phoenix takes 24 hours to respond to questions (and sends these annoying automated "acknowledgments" that they are working on your message) but does provide support and was instrumental in finding a resolution to my airbag issue. I got capped out at 5 pics in the post so pic of my set up is in the next post. Just need to get some OEM vents with proper clips and a better screen protector, and I'm good to go.
Good afternoon, I’d like to reignite this topic as there are new Phoenix Automotive (PA), android head units out and it appears all of the cabling has remained unchanged. I just purchased and installed the new G6 octa-core 12.1” android 11 head unit from Phoenix Automotive in my 2006 LX470. Even though there are zero instructions included, the install was very straightforward, if you are patient and take the time to figure out the cabling, you really can’t screw it up, every plug has only one mate. As for the side trim pieces, still as described in every post, don’t waste you time with the PA pieces, simply (and quickly) modify your OEM pieces and use them… As a side note, I went on eBay and bought spares so is I needed to, I could easily go back to original setup. Also, with the modifications to the trim pieces, I CA glued the top and bottom pieces together so as to make one piece out of the two, this made for a nice ridged piece that stays put nicely and is easily removed with no issues.

The only problem I’m having that I’d like clarification for is the airbag light and passenger light indicator with 5 pin connector.
I have followed the multiple threads leading you through the process of adding the two additional wires from the factory multi pin connector to the 5 pin passenger light indicator. That did help with functionality to the actual passenger light however it did not resolve the airbag light on the cluster. I’m assuming that the 4th position wire that remains disconnected is causing some issue. My temporary solution was to remove the AC/airbag interface board from the OEM head unit and reinstall it behind the PA 12.1” unit. What I’m left with is an all light are now off and everything on the PA 12.1” unit working except the rear air on/off capability of the new unit, in other words, the rear air works fine from the rear, you just cannot turn it on or off from the front seat.

I know that there are no functional issues with the OEM configuration. I have been in regular contact with PA and their “engineering department”. They have given me the option to return for full refund (don’t want to do that because the new unit even at 85% is far better than OEM) for the most part, they have laid the burden of figuring it out in my lap. Their last communication was for me to figure out where each of the 5 wires go and fill in the missing 3.

Any help would be appreciated.

I guess that's what's going to happen. I don't even see an opportunity off getting another Aircon unit, because on mine are the plugs for the side panels connected there. If I got the right box, I would need somewhere to connect those panels. Still waiting on phoenix to clarify my options, but I'm close to put the car back and wait til I can get another android as you say.. 😊

Hi
South West WA here and just purchased a 2004 LX470. The blue tooth stopped working and without an AUX input I want to upgrade the head unit but I like the old school buttons etc and really want to avoid the Tesla style screen replacing everything if possible as I have used aftermarket Android gear in a couple of my BMW's and always quite buggy. Has anyone use Kayhan Audio in Melbourne before as they apparently have a a unit the replaces the upper portion with screen and climate control but its $1495 just for the unit which seems pretty rich (I expect to get felt up with the big Japanese brands) I have looked at the GROM Vline as an option also

I'd buy anything besides the Grom Vline. I fought with one for 6 months, so unreliable I finally threw it away.

You want VAIS Tech (VAISTech AUX inputs). They have AUX and SiriusXM (integrates with display) add ons that just work with no cable cutting using the provided adapters. They are not the cheapest but their speciality is Lexus/Toyota and they have been in the game since 2004 and my first unit was bought in 2006 and all of mine have worked without any failures (Bluetooth and SiriusXM on 2006 Tundra, AUX and SiriusXM on 2002 LC). Highly recommended.

Update: Looks like they are out of stock and possibly no longer being manufactured. Might try calling them, but maybe better to look at other brands.

The T'eyes CC3 works for those of us with a Mark Levinson equipped LX470, which yours is. Dan is their local support guy, and is based in Perth (or thereabouts). There's a 36 page thread, this bit shows it working:

I’ve had a px6 in my truck for years with no issue. The naysayers and hypothesizers don’t know a damn thing. These are dead reliable
