Great build! Just read through the whole thing. I love my BIOR rear bumper as well. I see that you modified your exhaust, but if keeping the stock exhaust, the tow hook being mounted as it does serves as a "protector" of sorts to keep the exhaust from smashing.

The tow hook actually saved my exhaust on my very first trip after putting the bumper on. Up in VT, coming down off a ledge. Glad I kept it on there!

Quick question on the jerry can mount.... can you still get to the black round ball that you pull up to disengage the arm? It looks like the bend of the tubing is very close to that pin.

Nice build. I noticed your thread searching around since you're from my neck of the woods. Subscribed.

Hey Layton,

Since our rigs are twins and we have the same front bumper and skids, how did your (spresso's) recovery points fit up? There aren't any of those left so I ordered from a different fab and they don't hang down low enough to clear the BIOR skid or ARB mounting horn/bracket. Did you have to trim anything to make the frbv2's work? Thoughts/photos appreciated.

You have to cut the ARB brackets to allow the shackle to mount. Search for the original group buy and you'll see plenty of photos.

Thanks 2000. Seems typical to trim the ARB. I'm still curious if OP or anyone else had to trim BIOR skid as well. Seems you would have to but curious if anyone tried another approach.

How do you like your suspension set up? Nice rig.

Someone decided they wanted to test the strength of their camry with the strength of my bump it offroad rear bumper last night by running into me at about 20-25mph while i was at a stop light. Some people, sheesh.

Its been a while since I've seen you on here. Hope the truck came out OK. Had something similar happen a few years ago and literally not a scratch on the truck.

Pup's looking a lot bigger!

Glad to see you're back. I looked at this thread a ton while I was planning my build of my own 01 River Rock

BIOR right before i took it off.

So after 4 months of waiting due to the body shop being a little lazy, i got my Slee rear bumper in and the truck tailgate repaired. So the Bump it offroad rear is for sale. The BIOR has some minor damage, i have clear pictures of the damage that itll be up later. I'll have more photos up later and a for sale thread.

What happened? How did the tailgate get dented?

Cars bumper/hood hit the tire carrier and caused it to bend forward and contact the tailgate.

Since you have had both bumpers. What's your opinion?

Good looking K9 also... :D

I got rear ended. Called up mike at BIOR and he told me he was about 3-4 months away from being able to get a bumper built for me due to his back log of orders.
I called up Slee and spoke to Ben and he told me he had one sitting right in from of him ready to go out the door.
The Slee is nicer than the BIOR, but both are very good. I can't honestly say it is worth the extra cost though from my experience. Mike (BIOR) is also more willing to do or add whatever you want to the bumper and customize it for you.

First off, having a swing out is a PITA for getting into the rear of the vehicle. I had a 4x4 labs on my 80 before. You will find yourself using the tailgate a lot less.

These are my opinion:
Slee:
Pros: build quality (welds, steel used, design, spindle caps), smooth powdercoat, no cutting of rear crossmember, swing outs lock open.
Cons: more expensive, opening the swing outs is a two hand job, less customization (have to have ladder on left), rear tire "jiggles" more

BIOR:
Pros: less expensive, more open to customizing, can open the swing outs with one hand.
Cons: the pins that "lock" the swing arms need a lot of maintenance (will rust), requires cutting of rear crossmember.

There may be some other things I'm missing, that's just the main things I can think of off the top of my head. If I were spending my money, I'd probably go with the BIOR and use the nearly 1000$ to spend on other mods. Which is what I did the first time and I added one of BIOR's skid plates to the order haha.

Truck just passed 200,000 miles. I finally had a little break from work so decided to tackle a few maintenance items:
Timing belt, water pump, pulleys, o-rings and gaskets and seals, starter contacts and plunger, instake plenum gaskets, fuel injector o-rings, front upper and lower radiator hoses, all rear hoses and both T's, valve cover gaskets, PCV grommet, PCV valve, fuel filter, spark plug tube seals, all sway bar bushings and links, and a worn DS lower ball joint.

Think that's most of what I installed haha.
