I am going to do the same exact thing as soon as I get my springs replaced. I am planning on going with the 255/70 valving, FWIW. I've read it's a firmer valving that will help reduce sway of a heavy wagon.

Yup thats what I went with. The shocks will be in next Tuesday. Picked up the Ford shock towers...they're quite a bit more beefy than I expected. Found some tires I'm going to buy also. She should come together quite well. I still have to decide what to do about winter, but thats the future.

Blingin...

14in on the left 10in on the right and thats a fully extended stock front shock.

Got the rears installed tonight and started on the fronts, will be done tomorrow.

Worked basically all day on the cruiser. Built a basic rear bumper which I'll add more 1/4 panel protection to, dual swing outs and some plate.

I also got one of the front shocks all tacked in and cycled the suspension, looks all clear. Started making bump stop extensions also. Hope to finish up the shocks tomorrow.

Put in another late night (6pm-1:30am) on the cruiser. The front shocks are all set, front bump stops are set. All thats left is to build rear bump stops, notch the crossmember and mount up a front DS.

Here are a couple pics of the shock mounts

Yeah 3in give or take a bit.

I wish I had a cool backstory to the springs. But the only thing I can figure is that it was caused by a quick stop from about 10mph. Locked up the tires on wet pavement. 193k on the springs probably didnt help. I'm looking into stronger springs.

Something is not right.

I'm guessing, but I think your front bumps are too short, and your springs invert with up travel.

I have a very similar set up, except for longer bumps and a long AAL and nothing remotely like this bendage so far. Just came off 3 days on the Dusy with plenty of body carnage, but no chassis issues.

Little update: Finally bought some tires, they're 35in MTRs that I bought from Krazyfj on mud. They look pretty sweet, I'll get pictures tomorrow. Still havent gotten replacement springs, thus I havent driven my cruiser recently. :frown:

Poser pictures of the tires....I love the stance, guess once I find some springs I'll put AALs in them and french my hangers, maybe SR, but I've read mixed reviews on them.

I traded my friend my 3ft Firestik for his 4ft. Here's the mount I made, havent decided if I'll keep it like this, I dont like that it swings into the body when it hits branches.

It looks to be about $100 a piece for OME light springs. I was thinking of trying them out. They should sag a good bit so height shouldnt be an issue and I'd guess even light springs would be stronger than used stock 60 springs.

I put some new (used) front springs in today. All went well, I hope they dont bend again. Going to check the trunion bearings and do my cross member tomorrow. Then hopefully a maiden wheeling voyage sometime this week.

Take a tennis ball and cut a hole on either side and slide it down the antenna till its just below the rear window level. This way when you hit a branch the ball will hit the tuck and cushion is instead of the antenna beating the crap out of you body.

Thanks, I was thinking of making some sort of cushion to slide over the antenna.

Its about time you got that thing offroad!

Tell me about it. Its about time I even drive it on the street.

I think I figured out what caused the leaves to bend. When I slam on the brakes, the nose dives a lot. I'm thinking it compressed to the point that it hit the bump stops and they acted like a pivot point and the axle just wrap around. Not sure how to fix that other than some stiffer springs.

Don't slam on the brakes as hard? This is the first time I have heard of this problem with the 4runner calipers. Try what you were saying with an aal made from a spare set of 2nd leafs.

So the trunion bearing preload is in spec. It still has a clunk/looseness feeling over sharp bumps and pulls to the right when backing up...but not when going forward. I'm thinking I should try some caster shims. But I really am at a loss right now.

Check torque on u-bolts, spring pins, shackles since you just took them all apart? Check the caster to make sure the two ends are the same since you did a C&T? Old tie rod ends?

It's all guess work until you know what numbers you are dealing with in terms of caster.
