Those are some sharp sliders man, good work!

Thanks!

Did some wheeling with a local club this weekend. I convinced my friend to let me borrow his brand new 35in Kevlar MT/Rs for the trip. They are animals. Definitely out performed my KM2s by a large margin. Right up until I put a huge slice right through the Kevlar reinforced sidewall. So now I owe him a brand new tire  I caught a sharp rock on the side of the trail as I was driving between obstacles, it bit the rim a bit and put a 3in long slice right through the sidewall. I was thinking about buying a set for my 60, but I plan to put a FF 80 rear axle in so I need at least 16in wheels, MT/Rs get a little too rich for my blood not too far beyond the price of a 35x12.50R15. Too bad, they really blew me away with the grip. Alas, I'll probably get some 37in Treadwrights.

Anyway, sliders performed well. I have a video of the day, I'll try to upload.

Here's the tire, had about 100miles on it before this happened...

Too bad that tire got roasted, but that's the game we all play.

Thinking this indicates that the MTRs have a weak sidewall or was the rock shaped like a razorblade?

I think its a little of both. The rock wasnt all that sharp. I think it was just bad luck and I hit the rock just right to cause it to cut through the tire.

So evidently .250 wall 2x3 isnt substantial enough for the sliders. I managed to put a good sized dent in my drivers slider this weekend. Oh, and I think the roofs coming off this winter...DOH!!

Other than hitting a tree the trip went well. I ziptied and patched that sliced MTR and it took the abuse all day and didnt lose any air. :hillbilly:

Couple pictures from wheeling...

Tonight I finished up my Saginaw install. I got the pump from a Volvo 240, so the pulley bolts onto a hub vs press fit and the OEM pressure line threaded right in. I whipped up a little 2 bolt and a nut mount, a 1in spacer, ground the factory bracket a little, spaced out the pulley and VIOLA I can turn my 35s! Really it makes a huge difference, I wish I did it years ago. I can turn my tires at idle now and without it puking out ATF! I'm going to make a guard for my radiator hose out of thin sheet metal because the belt is a little too close for comfort. Other than that it seems that everything works well together. I'll give it a good thrashing next weekend with some wheeling.

I'm also in the process of putting some Contour fans on it instead of the mechanical fan.

Looks good brother! Contour fans and Saginaw PS are way underrated:grinpimp:

Now all I need is the engine swap fairy to drop in and give me some more power.

I've been debating getting some 36in Iroks. I've been using my friends Kevlar MT/Rs and they're awesome. But I'd really like a bit more tire and after slicing the sidewall I'm a little concerned with buying a set. Iroks are also plentiful and reasonably priced.

I got the Contour fans installed and wired up. They work great!

So the truck is for sale now? Are you getting away from the Land Cruiser scene?

Zack

Not sure. I havent had this truck inspected or insured for over a year. All it does is sit around and get trailered to wherever I wheel. I'd rather have less money in an uglier wheeling truck. Wheeling around here is rough on bodies. I already gave this one a good whack. But its not destroyed yet. I'm looking for a solid axle mini truck, 4runner or 40 to replace it.

Aww man I'm not abandoning them. That would be like when I sold my first 60 and bought a Heep. :o

These big wagons are just too big for successfully wheeling the northeast without getting tons of body damage. I love them, they're by far my favorite vehicle Toyota built. But it doesnt quite fit what I need anymore. Trust me, I'm sad.

I'll miss you old friend.

Well it's not the first time you've sold a 60 that you've put a ton of hours into. You'll be into another one soon enough

Yeah it was the first vehicle I've ever sold that I was actually sad to see go. I already have a 40 build in the works. Less sheet metal, more tire, more tube and more POWAH.
