Got a response from Wolfgang at Tibus of approx 12k euros plus shipping for a set of 4.
That's good to know. Are those boxes approved to run on the highway? I've seen other boxes that are 55mph or lower only.

As mentioned earlier, even if you went back to stock 4.10 gears, the average portal is geared around 1.9, so your effective ratio would be somewhere around 7.5 or higher. So unless you are running super tall tires like 44's or taller, your ground speed will be severely limited. Kinda doubt even 55

The Tibus setup is 1.16-1.6 gear ratio. 1.16 would be perfect for 37s without any other regear.

I think you did your conversion backwards. 12K Euro would be about $13.6k USD. They do have CTIS and wheels to match. I talked to Wolfgang Tibus way back in 2006. He has been doing this for a very long time. He did Unimog axles as well. I think he quoted me $11k for a set of Unimog 1300 axles but they are much to large for an 80.

Wow, thanks for setting me straight. Would be a great mod if I could afford it. Per @wyocoyote above says $12K Euro would be around $10K US + Shipping. Wonder if they offer CTIS with it?

Curious if anyone here has tried the Tibus portals. Looks like they are expensive but a bolt on setup giving 4-5” of lift with higher axle clearance is wicked cool.

@SNLC didn't you have a set of PortalTecs at one point?

Yes I did. Sold them to guy here on the forum actually who had said he was putting them under a 40.

Cheers

On a Cruiser I would probably just do the Marks unless you need something burlier. They bolt on and will suit most people up to 37" rubber.

Cheers

Swapped a full portal axles. Didn’t realize this was a bolt on option being talked about. Cant find the thread on pirate.
Volvos have been done by members on here a few times. My personal favorite is @2fpower ‘s

There was a forum member on here “tired iron” I think, he swapped the Volvo portals on his and it was sweet looking.

If your going to go portal on an 80 and want to be able to drive it in the highway that seems the way to go unless you want to spend $13k + on bolt on options.

Even if you don’t want to do the fabrication, I think you can get a set of Volvo portal axles for $4k or something and pay a fabricator to adapt them.
