Ok,

I have updated the first post with lots of new details.

I still need an FJ45 and FJ55, if someone is willing to bring one out. Please advise if you know of one... (lightly to moderately modified prefered)

Here is what I need from those on the attendee list:
1-5 pictures of your truck and a mod list. Please send me an email to guide "@" expeditionswest.com

This will allow me to start feeding you more detailed info, and send the model release, NDA info, etc. I will also need some level of commitment from you that you will make the trip

Oh, and I will let you know about a VERY cool recent development. ;)

rightlane: Please email me

Note: The attendee list is not complete, and will be update with more participants.

unfortunately my trail 55 doesnt meet the requirements for filming and my light resto DD'er 55 isnt ready yet, however if i am invited to join the group and tag along outside the camera lens,,,,,

The Sunflower mine trail has become more challenging with the recent rains, maybe a light 3.0 rating now. 4wd and good clearance is required, traction device and rock sliders for LWB vehicles recommended. The trail can be done in a stock FJ40. FJ55, FJ60 and UZJ100 with sliders or lift (to prevent BD), FJ80 sliders recommended, no running boards without lift. Just my opinion having run the trail about a month ago.

I will post some pictures in the next few days :)

Rhino, shoot me a few pics of your truck. I think I might remember it (did we run crown king together a few years ago?

how's the sunflower mine compare to the crown king ride?

Crown king is a 2.5 (if you dont run the optional stuff) and Sunflower Mine is a 3.0 now IMO. Probably still a 2.5 for a SWB.

It is more of a challenge for the bigger vehicles, and the canyon is tight in places, and the LWB reduces line options.

For example, on the last trip, a stock TJ (open diff) with only 31's and disconnected swaybar faired much better than the stock Tacoma TRD with the locker. Both were new drivers. The results would be just the opposite on the Crown King trail IMO.

I will try to post some pictures tonight...

On our last adopt a road run there, the reports were that the creek section is more fun than it's been in a long time. Due the heavy winter rains. It may be more than a 3.0 right now by some standards. Depends on the driver, YMMV.

shotts i wasnt talking about you,,, i was referring to the john that drives the white 55,, but heck its ok buddy, with so many johns out there who knows where to piss :flipoff2:

the crown king trail has gotten alot better since the rains, its alot more like it was so many years ago before that asshat ran through it with a blade. i havent been to sunflower but it sure sounds like a top notch trail now.

desertdude just clued me in on this. I have a slightly modified 1964lwb45. It has a stock f135 engine, 3 on the tree, standard steering and brakes. Sits on 32" tires with 2" of lift. I have sliders for the bed from the rear wheelwells back.
Here's a pic [it's the one on the left]:

:bounce: Pasquale and you just made my day!

You have no idea how awesome it would be to have your truck out there. What are the chances of you making that happen?

We can discuss a few other things via email that can help sweeten the pot.

Hello all,

I just wanted to confirm the run, BUT there is a minor issue, in that the Tonto NF is currently closed in the area of the trail. I am looking for alternates that do not require the Tucson folks to drive even further north (for example, the Smiley Rock trail is a nice option). Reno Pass is also affected and FR42 is too hot. El Oso Mine is also in the closed area.

So, and am leaning towards Montana Mountain, unless someone else has a suggestion that gets us to elevation.

I called Tonto NF office and they indicated is a good storm or two comes, they will lift the closure.

For now, everything is as planned. I will advise of any changes in the coming days.

FR42 is HOT though it would make for amazing video. I'd vote for the heat.
I ran Montana Mountain with the Rovers 2 months ago. There wasn't any 4-Wheeling. They dozed the whole road.

I don't know any trails up north so I leave it to you. I do appreciate you thinking of those of us down south here as far as drive time goes. I am still in for sure. I'm not worried about gas mileage, I am going to hook up to John's 100 and have him tow me! :D

With Horseshoe 100% full and Bartlett is 99% (5.28.05) I don’t think you can run FR42 end to end. The last time we ran it the lakes were at the same level and you could not get from Indian Springs wash to Bartlett due to the water level. Check with Game and fish to be sure.
