These are very nice, looking forward to a single drawer model for the fam rigs that need that one third row.

Shouldnt be that difficult to half the system- I may be oversimplifying this but appears the top comes in 2 pcs, and so you would simply need to add 1 side pc to close off the drawer- right?

Yes but the two pieces currently are wide, not deep, so that would mean cutting (4) new halves (which means new design and CNC setup) - because you need to build (2) different side sets (some folks want one side and some the other), also would need a new piece to help prevent trapezoiding (the full set benefits from 3 supports rails), then build and test the whole thing.

So, no, not nearly as difficult as designing and building this system was in the first place, but since this is not my day job and all my spare time is consumed with getting this group buy out, followed by looking to meet the demand of 80 series owners, that is why a single drawer is #3 priority at the moment;)

Paid-

Weekend Update:

I've now received payment from 15 of 20 people, thank you! For the remaining 5, please pay soon or if your circumstances have changed no big deal, just please email me so I can release your slot to one of the backups.

I've enough funds to now order the skeleton and hardware - pics to follow once they arrive.

The design change I had been contemplating I have decided to pursue and should have a 3D render for you to look at shortly, thank you for the almost universal agreement that an extra week or so was worth it.

The sole problem at the moment is the bracket. To make the wings (ie the sides between the drawers and the edges of the truck) separate pieces requires strong L-brackets in order to maintain top strength & function. The problem is finding inexpensive ones. At the moment the best I have found are running $11 each, which assuming (4) are adequate (needs confirmation by prototyping & me jumping on top of them) comes to $44 (plus shipping), so call it $50 above the original cost. I do NOT want to have to increase cost to anyone, so this is the dilemma I am mired in. I am exploring custom bracket designs with my MechE brother who has made 100s of metal parts, and hope to bottom out that avenue in a day or two. If anyone knows of a good, low cost source for a 6" x 6" gusseted angle bracket (gusset is mandatory for strength) please email me.

Reminder as to why I am so intent on going down this path:
1- securing the top before the structure goes into the truck will significantly ease the process of squaring everything - critical for the drawers to slide smoothly
2- much easier to remove & reinstall the drawer system for those that might need to do so
3- removable or hinged wings become a very, very easy mod
4- simpler, cheaper port to the 80 series. That won't help folks in this group buy, but it will help those 100 owners that did not make it in since going forward I will continue to build these in groups of 10 and the more rigs they fit the quicker the orders get fulfilled.

Look for the render and more bracket news soon,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Will I be able to add a hinge to have my wings flip up? Space is valuable, although the space is small under the wings you can still fit a lot of items in there. Also it will aid in removing the jack. I would be would be willing to pay you more for flip up wings and I would be willing to bet other people would too.

Jeff- I'm still trying to nail down the bracketry so until i do I can't be 100% certain, but in theory YES it would be simple to add a piano hinge and just not bolt down the wing to the bracket - done. Or European (hidden) hinges would be cleaner on top but more work underneath... Oh, and add some rubber bumpstops to ensure no rattling;)

I have a bracket path forward that will be high strength but low cost. Every metal bracket design I could come up with, design, and get quoted never got below $10 each, and so I am going with a combination of small angle brackets and 15mm plywood. It's known, I'm already procuring it, and easy for everyone to tweak and modify later to their heart's content. There are a few different ways I can still finalize that which is why I am not showing you a pic yet, but at least I know that this is a) doable, and b) low cost. I'm trying to get updates from my CNC'er what this will add, but he is being unresponsive <sigh> so I am reaching out to an alternate shop as well. Little more time but we are close...

I know you don't really want to raise the cost to anyone. But I would definitely be ok with it for this option. Or maybe just leave it as an additional option to get the proper brackets from you if you want to utilize the wings?

Thanks Brandon, but I think the approach I am trying will work for flip up wings or bolted down, so no need to get extra brackets later. It's coming down to response time in comms and workload of my CNC'er - super frustrating.

Just a quick update - the size of the order for the skeleton meant going to a distributor which has been sssslllloooowwwww but I think finally on the cusp of ready to order - arrival in bend would be next week, which should hopefully dovetail with the plywood nicely. So not this weekend, but next weekend I am shooting for assembling kits with shipments after that.

Sorry not moving faster but wanted to let you know progress IS being made.

Thanks for the update.

340 pounds of freaking aluminum, on 1-2 pallets, valued at over $5,000, is FINALLY on its way. That was a nerve-wracking order, it's more than I paid for my FJ62! ETA next week.

Plywood being delivered today, start cutting Monday. Bits to beta test two methods of wing support on their way and I should have time to test and squeeze into the order before everything is out the door.

UPDATE
Aluminum should arrive tomorrow, 12mm plywood cut, 15mm in process and targeting Monday, so... shipments should start mid next week!

Wing support design - yes - cost more than I wanted, but I got some efficiencies at 20 that I hadn't counted on so I'm only down a little bit each unit. Group buy prices wont't be this low going forward;) I'll post the wing design as soon as I get the proto pieces from my CNCer and can show you real life, not renders - he was SUPPOSED to be done yesterday, then today, but nada - sorry this is a drag, nothing I can do... except work on the aluminum kits!

too bad I had to cut these open since 3 parts need to be touched to make them ready for the drawers. I'll have to find ways to design/respec/engr out this manual labor stuff going fwd, not sure how long my labor force will be willing to help:

(he is earning money for a pet hedgehog right now so a willing worker;)

I still expect to start shipping this coming week.

Have you decided on a price for the next group to purchase? Not that you'd remember but I was initially on the list but needed to pull my name for financial reasons. I'm wondering if I might be able to make this next set you produce work out financially. Also, I may be up your way in December, how do you feel about local pickups?
