Just installed a Dakota Digital in my 76 FJ40

Yes, it is a nice looking cluster.

That's a nice cluster, but my preference is the more "stock" looking Dakota Digital, which is what I went with. I've really enjoyed mine!

I agree. This is what mine looked like before:

I was not a fan of the round dial gauges.

The VHX is now offered with white back lighting, so that mixed with the white face and it's as close to stock as you can get.

If I had a round gauge for everything I can monitor with my Dakota cluster, I'd have no dash space left!

Obviously speed, tach, fuel level, water temp, and oil pressure are most important. I can also scroll through my cluster and easily check:

Fuel pressure
Voltage of my main battery
Voltage of my auxiliary battery
Air pressure in my air tank
Trip A and B
Hours on my engine

There are also indicators of the normal things like blinkers, brights, etc. But also check engine, cruise engaged, brake engaged, etc.

The extra couple hundred $$$ is nothing when comparing 5 round gauges to the more OEM look and improved functionality of the Dakota cluster (in my opinion) ;)

Just received my Dakota Digital Dash.

Shout out goes to Bryan from Gotta be Geared! Thanks for the good price!

Set the unit in place. Very happy with the quality. Went with black back face and white lights.

I really like the look of these clusters just can't get past the 8,000 RPM tach. I rarely ever get a F/2F past 4,000. Even thought Toyota claimed 85 MPH all day the FJ40 was not built for speed.

BTW guys, for anyone contemplating a TBI swap or Dakota Digital swap, I no longer have the in-glove box mounting panels for the ECU's/controler, but here's the drawing so that you can make your own. This becomes a second story in your glove box so that you keep the electronics up out of the way.

Gary thanks for posting this thread. I bought a DD from Bryan awhile ago and have been waiting until the complete rebuild of my 45 to install the unit. I'm suppose to get the body back from paint this week. So your thread is very timely for me.

BTW Bryan has great service and pricing on these units. I would recommend buying from him.

Hi all, I don't want to hi jack this thread but I am a huge fan of the Dakota digital gauges and that is why I chose to be a dealer for them :) If anyone is interested in these please message me for special MUD pricing. I would be happy to help!

Thanks!

Hi bryan, are you still a rep?

I finally have mine installed and I really like it! I put Velcro on the back of my units and stuck them to the overhead of the glove box. You can't see them but you can access them if needed.

Just have a question-I am installing my DD computer and seeing your comp. holder in the glove box-why not to make both legs the same length? How do you secure the holder in the glove box?drill it on the left side for bolts??I want to attach GPS module too and it needs to be solid fit which is not moving in the glove box and I don"t want to drill any holes if I can get around it...

@drnekFJ40 you will really enjoy your unit, especially at night! I'm looking forward to the pictures.

I do have white face model so it will be a little different....Blue lights,too....Still don"t know where to put the GPS box,but I will figure it out...I will make some pictures soon...

I finally got my installation done...I mounted my switches under steering wheel in a small electrical box, ordered the dimmer knob which I mounted beside cigarette lighter into existing hole-really love that I can change my light manually any time with turning a knob.Mounted GPS box in the glovebox...Works great so far....
