Um, don't put too much stock in me leading the group! I know of one good trail that has many offshoots we can explore; I do know of a few more across the valley west of Harrisonburg. Scott said there's trails everywhere around Sherando and judging by our one trip there it appeared he wasn't kidding. I hope you're all ok w/ scouting and exploring..............

Hey Joe,
I talked to a couple guys at Crozet last week and got mixed signals on what is still open out there in GW.

One guy said that Dictum, 2nd Mtn and Shoe creek were all at least partially closed. But then our trail guide said that was not true.
He says that Dictum and 2nd Mtn are still open but only from the top, not Hwy 33. That is via the long FS Road west of Harrisonburg. So I guess you can go down the trails but you have to come back up to get out.
He wasnt sure about Shoe Creek but thought it was still open.
Stony run is right near the lake but is supposed to be just a trail.

Crozet was a great place but you have to pay.

Dave

Thanks Dave. I'd rather not have to across the valley to Dictum, Second Mtn, etc., but it's always an option. There really does appear to be plenty to explore in the Sherando vicinity..............

I am completely fine with exploring, no expectations from me. I hope everyone else is thinking the same...

Hey Brian et al,
We are going to be making this trip, most likely. Before we book our site, can Joe or anyone else confirm this is a trip where the risk of trail damage is nil? We want this to be the first ONSC trip in Emma's 80, but the :princess: wants to make sure her baby isn't going to get hurt :)

Thanks!

Just booked A15.

Ramon,

Not sure what kind of trails are up there. Joe's the leader! :) I'm just along for the ride. I expected just forest road type stuff (like Brown Mt./Linville Falls trip), but it seems there is a few trails in the area (maybe like the Brown Mt. ORV?). Can't be too wild, or can it?

I guess there's no ONSC registration for this. Just checked the site and didn't see it.

 R

Nope, I didn't ask Joe to put it on. I didn't think there would be a lot of people going, so it should be easy to manage. And, everyone books your their campsite, so I don't need to know headcount.

STR took all my ambition away to make sure people had a campsite in the same general area!

Ramon, any time you go off pavement, there is a risk of damage.:p You run that risk onroad too.;p

The trails we ran, in nasty rain, were not difficult but were still fun - kind of like some of the easy/moderate trails at URE.

Can I park at someone's site? I'll pay half the fee.

You can park in between Ramon and I... not a problem..

^^^^ What he said Joe.

I know there is some risk, which I am sure we can mitigate quite easily if in a small group. You said the exact kind of info I was looking for, so thanks!!

I totally understand Brian - I was just making sure to comply where appropriate. People don't understand commitment, and how late changes can monkeywrench things. That's why I suggested the "block off / book your own by a certain date" method. I think that is how next year STR is going to be done, right?

 R

A14 for Friday and Saturday night! Looking forward to the trip...might just be me and Tori.

Will most likely bring out the 60!!!

I'm pretty sure it will be...

I'm pretty sure it will be...

Second that - the Mabes and the Keefers will be tag teaming STR 2011 and the reservation change is first on the list.

The wife and I will most likely make this event but I think it's gonna be a last minute decision (with work, etc..).

Man I had no idea Cooter's closed up years ago. Thought it might be fun to make a pilgrimage...............

So no one's up for Crozet, that's fine. I was hoping on a laidback trip...

So it's:
Joe
Brett
Ramon
Myself
Eric

Rafael, Jon, David, Alex?

I was thinking going up US29, any other suggestions? Shall we meet along the way, say Danville, VA? or just meet at the campsite?

Wife and I (plus dog) are in as of tonight. We will be driving the 80 so are there any peeps that want to share a site before we reserve our own?

I'd like to reserve a site by the end of the weekend at the latest if no one wants to share...

I think Eric, Brett, Ramon, and myself all have sites. Joe's going to get in between Ramon and I, but there should be enough for another.
