We have debated taking the kayaks, we brought em to the Tide Ride, and really didn't do a whole lot. If you guys want to use them, we'll bring them. I've got 3, so one of us may have to sit out...

Group Dinner

So, does everyone want to cook a group theme, or just do it individually?

So - based on the group's consensus last night, looks like Mexican group dinner on Saturday and everyone on their own Friday?

Let's start to get a list together of who's bringing what.

Jared - you want to use your Google doc and everyone just add Mexican style dishes / sides to it?

Anyone bringing firewood? Not that the temps will justify it, but we are camping....

We'll have to buy some firewood in VA, they're restricting wood from out of state for controlling pests. I think the site has some for sale...

Anyone else want to fish any? I'm going to bring rod and tackle if yes. Will need to get VA temp permit I'm sure.

Plans

I realized not everyone was copied on the PM that is going on the VA trip.

This is from Joe:
Regarding the plan for this weekend: there isn't one. Yet.

Saturday is set: we will explore the Big Levels area, which is right by the campsite and where there are trails. We may end up onroad / BRP a little to get around. We will likely travel some forest roads that are simply dirt roads.

Friday: We need to set a rally point/time. 2PM at the campground for those coming from the Triangle? That will give us a little time to set up and go do some exploring. We have some options:

1. Run Shoe Creek (very easy, nearby) then hike Crabtree Falls.
2. Explore a bit NE of Sherando, closer to Charlottesville.
3. A 3rd option, not 4WD-related, is to visit Monticello, or Swananoa and Skyline Drive (all onroad).
4. Go waterfall hunting north/NW of Sherando.
5. Do nothing: hang out at Sherando, hike, fish, kayak, bocce, beer, whatever.

Sunday: one of the options above. Shoe Creek/Crabtree would be good early in the day if we don't do that Friday - and I suggest doing it Sunday as it's on the way back to Rt 29.

However, I have to head up to Waynesboro Sunday mid-morning to pick up Susana and spend a little time with our friends, so I likely cannot lead anything.

I do not see any reason to head over to the west side of the valley - it's probably 45 mins or more from camp to any decent trails, and even the decent ones are very very mild.

Please let me know your thoughts, and if you have any suggestions whatsoever, let's hear them!

My $.02 - Monticello is low priority for me...but I'm down with exploring some waterfalls! (honestly I'm down for anything)
I might have to change my plans and get out of town early on Fri so I can meet up w everyone at 2:00! Sounds like it's going to be fun!
Ramon - I thought about bringing my fishing pole - but think I'd rather just play bocce - don't need a license to do that!

late lurker here.... spoke with the forest service about the first come first serve sights available and its a gamble but I'm gonna try and make this one. I can fit easily amongst the crowd if there is space, but I think the boost retard might be in tow too so we will be arriving early as possible to try and secure a tent spot from loop B or upper loop A.

I'll probably have the fishing gear and hit a walmart on the way in for a liscense.
And I'll update the google doc shortly. What type of grilling equipment will we have?

Cool Jason!
I'm pretty sure there is a grill at each campsite...anyone know for sure?
As far as equip...whatever you bring! (I'll prob grab my cast iron skillet and some basic utensils)

Someone want to sign up for plates napkins etc or just byo(paper products)

I say BYO, but Joe was looking for something to bring. We, usually bring plates and cup for ourselves, you know to stock the kitchen!

Good to have you aboard Jason!

I am sick as a dog, got this stoopid sinus cold everyone I work with has. I'm laying low and hope to be recovered so I can head up Thursday............

I will be going and hoping brian brings a kayak or two I am planning to spend some time fly fishing.

I will bring plates and utensils left from OBX and Farm.

Anyone interested in making a late afternoon caravan, I can't get away till about 4.

I've got a kayak that can be used if someone wants to come by and pick it up since I'll be on the road to CO Friday...

I'll take you up on your offer Jerry! Ramon, if you could at least pick it up from Jerry, that would help me out. I can throw it on the trailer when we meet up, or if you want to keep on your roof rack, that would be cool too. I'm going to bring my 3 (plus Lily's little one). Jerry, you wouldn't happen to have an extra paddle do you? I only have 2...well and Lily's but that would be too small for adult use.

That said, we may want to adjust our planning, as people may want to stay around the lake and use them...

I'll bring the cornhole boards also...

Not a problem, thanks for that Jerry! I'll call you tonight.

No prob. I've got paddle, PFD, skirt if needed and I have a white water boat also but it wouldn't be much fun to fish out of...
