I also bought the factory jack extensions (~$30) so I could drop the ancient, maybe original, spare. The hanger needs a massive cleaning but I'm gonna look for a used one and just replace it.

The tire shop around the corner mounted the unused matching spare (295/75/16 Hankook) and I was able to fit it up under the truck, but it's tight. Peace of mind.

that stinks... I just threw two of them away. But if your going through that effort now would be a good time to do the spare tire lift mod. info on main board (blarsen maybe) but basically getting longer bolts and a section of pipe for each to pass through and set the cradle/hoist on top, bolt down and viola. You should be able to squeak a 315 in there, true 35 maybe not. A little less risk of cutting a tire while dragging in URE. Or you could put the spare on the back.........................;)

Interesting you still dont have a Pbrake. Im having the same issues. Followed posers thread, everything works fine and within spec but no go. I may replace the shoes next time im due for rotors just to see.
 
I just realized that this may be the 1st cruiser that has been owned by 3 different club members.

I have a good under truck spare tire carrier laying here at the shop you can have.

Someone needs a refresher course on rear brakes cause they put the pad in upside down from that pic.

Yeah, I was reading some threads on the mod recently since I wasn't able to steal your rear bumper. And someone replied to an old one this morning in the 80's section that brought it to the top to shout at me.

Cover, Sliding Roof. You'll want both RH & LH. These pieces can warp over time and divert water away from the drain where it can then find its way into the vehicle. Thanks to CARDREADER for the find. His info on the fix starts at #11 below.

I haven't hit it with a high pressure hose yet but there haven't been any rain issues since the fix.

That was on my to-do list forever :o. The truck has been in much better hands since it left my driveway. Makes me feel a little better.

Your other post on the rear brake rotors reminded me that I still have brand new in box rotors and pads that I also never got around to :doh:. I need to post those up in the for sale thread.

Clear your PM box! Did you ever do the 100-series front pads swap? I haven't looked yet.

Yeah, I need to renew my star.

I have the 100 series pads but had trouble fitting them when I did the front axle rebuild so I ended up just using the 80 series pads.
 
Al was nice enough to come over last week and provide guidance and labor for a few things. We changed fluid and grease in the transmission, diffs, transfer case, brakes and greaseable parts. I also installed my shiny new allen head plugs in the diffs. It wasn't necessary but I was trying to make everything the same between my two trucks as the 40 already had some installed. Now I'll worry about gunk plugging the allen hole instead of rocks rounding off the bolt head.

There aren't any pics but it was a basic job that doesn't need any to tell the story.

Tranny oil and diff oil looked good with the exception of the front diff; it was kind of greasy. The front axle had been rebuilt by the PPO approximately 16k miles ago with Marlin seals. I guess they're failing. I still need to grease the front knuckles. That's on the list for this week. I can't remember the diff oil I used but I used my giant pump on the 5-gallon jug. I'll edit later after I've been to the shop and get the specs.

The brakes were fully bled as preventative maintenance. I was bummed that we couldn't get my Motive Power Bleeder to fit the master cylinder (not that we put any thought into modding the PB) but the traditional 2-person method worked just fine. We learned to do the LSPV last. I can't say that I stop better now but I do feel better. Prestone yellow jug.

ATF drain looked good. I'm not sure when it was done last so I fought off the urge to leave well enough alone and replaced the 5qts that came out with Mobil 1 synthetic at Al's recommendation.

I'm thinking of doing the coolant next. It's full of green right now. I've been reading that Toyota Red is the only way to go. Also heard to change it anywhere from 3k to 60k miles. I guess I'll keep researching.

I double checked on the milage for the coolant. The guy said 30k. To avoid any reaction on the aluminum head.
 
All the talk on this forum over the last few weeks got me thinking about my AC, specifically my LACK of AC. I don't know much about that system but things seemed to check out except for the lack of cold air so I went to Auto Zone and got an AC Schrader valve tool, to make sure my valves were tight, and a can of R134a. It took all of 90 seconds to follow the directions and get cold air blowing again. I didn't use the UV dye to check for leaks so we'll see what happens over the next months. Here's to hoping for the best. :cheers: It was great to be able to keep the windows up on the long, dusty forest road to the trailhead the next day.

Went to URE last weekend and finally have the time to write it up. Thanks to Mike and Kenny and Lydia for meeting me out there. The trails were pretty vacant. We saw a heep group and a few bikes and quads. I got almost 1/3 of a 30g trash bag of crap off the trails but nowhere near the amount Lydia got since they rode the clean up position (last in line).

We made a big loop (I forget the trail names, maybe I'll edit when I see the map) and Sarah drove all except for Dutch John. She did great. She doesn't seem to be as cautious as I am when I drive the 40. We found that the lockers don't engage and the 4HI mod took forever to lock the center diff. I'll get those things cleaned up this week now that work has slowed during the week.

Kenny was nice enough to bring us all by the 'beach' house after the trails. Mike jumped in the lake while Sarah, Kenny and I tried to scare the fish with our offerings of tasty morsels tied to clear string. He must have scared the 4' water snake from it's lair. We all stared at it trying to find a hiding spot in the riprap. I won the race to catch the first fish but conveniently failed to take a pic - it would be better described as bait than fish. That's all I have to say about that.
