Driveshaft u-joint connected to the axle yoke (don’t worry, we torque it down), brakes installed and bled, and onto the alignment rack it went. Notice how much wider the GX is now. Granted this is a compact parking spot, but my goodness 😄.

No time for a shake down. “Moab will be my shake down.” 😂. But first, let’s stop by the Bonneville Salt Flats. Didn’t actually go into it because we didn’t want to have to wash the under carriages of our vehicles just yet (due to the water still on the flats).

After the Bonneville Salt Flats, we headed to Salt Lake City where we had dinner and then to camp. Stayed in some dispersed camping areas in Diamond Fork Canyon. The photos below is in the morning and getting ready to head to Moab.

First thing we did when we got to Moab, was bought some souvenirs (got more of my favorite green Moab Utah hats), hit up the local healthy foods store, and ate lunch before the Fins and Things Trail Head.

First trail was Fins and Things. Great introduction to Moab and what’s to come. Glad we chose this trail first.

Don’t mind the audio, but a clip from one of the drop offs in Fins and Things:

While Fins and Things was great. I also found out I broke a thing 😄. After leaving the Sand Flats Recreational area, I felt tons of vibration. My friends and I pulled over and found that I had broken my Conversion U Joint. ***Root Cause is the U Jlint kept hitting my fuel tank skid, due to Long Travel rear shocks with no limiting straps and bump stops weren’t working properly being my axle May be too much to the rear. Will have to dial in the axle location when home, but for now, gotta do a trail repair.

My buddy Jon and my brother Steven tow the GX to camp using the Raptor while I use my brother Taco to grab two u joints: an OEM sized U Joint and a 1310 Spicer. With those two parts we were able to piece together a make shift conversion U Joint. My buddy Jon cleaned up the ears on the driveshaft, installed the make shift U Joint and that repair lasted the entire trip!

Some IG videos from Hell’s Revenge:

Don't you get real nervous with all that weight up top doing some of those trails?
I know I'm real careful if not overly careful about how high my center of gravity is with my RTT. My wife is kind of my "off camber/too steep sensor". When she starts emphatically (just short of yelling at me) telling me to not do something too off camber or steep, I don't. Even though I'm 80-90% sure I'd have no problem making an obstacle, I don't like to scare her. If I'm not making it fun for her, I'll lose my co pilot/navigator... AND happy wife, happy life.

No, because this setup is close to, if not lighter than my old roof rack loaded up with crap. Notice the “Old Setup” weight being 4-5lbs. Lighter than new setup, but that’s because it’s not considering all the crap I put in the box. So, with that said, I’ve wheeled a bit with a loaded rack, so my comfort level wheeling with the current setup is pretty high.

Roof Weight:

Old Setup:
  • Front Runner Roof Rack 71 lbs.
  • Maxtrax x4 30 lbs.
  • Front Runner Max Trax Mounts 8.8 lbs.
  • Rich Solar 100 watt solar panel 16.5 lbs.
  • Roam 95L Cargo Box 24 lbs. Empty
  • Waterport Day Port (full) 42 lbs.
  • Rago Waterport Mount 3 lbs.
  • DFG Shower Tent 18 lbs.
  • Front Runner Easy Out Awning Brkts 3 lbs.
  • Big Country 4x4 Ostrichwing Awning 57 lbs.
  • Baja Design 40” S8 Light Bar 8.65 lbs.
Overall Weight : 281.95 lbs.

New Setup:
  • Alucab Gen 3R 176lbs.
  • Alucab Shadow Awning 52 lbs.
  • Alucab Shower Cube 19.2 lbs.
  • Alucab 1450mm Load Bars (x4) 26.4 lbs.
  • Baja Design 40” S8 Light Bar 8.65 lbs.
  • Gamiviti Roof Rack Towers 2 lbs.
  • Diode Dynamics SS2 Pro Chase Lights 1 lbs.
Overall Weight : 285.25 lbs.

When I posted the previous post, I wasn't considering you now have a wider track with those new axles than I have with my stock axles. That helps with stability when off camber also.

At the end of the Hell’s Revenge Trail, I noticed I couldn’t get out of 4Lo. Checked all my Wheel Speed Sensors and noticed my Passenger Rear Wheel Speed Sensor wire was damaged. So, luckily O’Reilly’s was really close. Repaired it in the parking lot and then headed to dinner in town and eventually setup camp nearby off Cotter Mine Rd.

The next day we hit up Metal Masher. These trails really are like, whole day events lol 😂. We ended up wheeling with a group of folks we met at Hell’s Revenge the day before. Really cool folks from SLC, Utah.

When we came into town, ran into an Instagram buddy and fellow RCLT HD owner Aaron aka yoda.runner on IG.

Finally made it out to Chicken Corners. Great thing is, you can camp there. So, we set up on the shade side of the wall. Best camp spot I’ve ever had the pleasure of camping at.
