JDM a/c drier relocation kit

Well, it's the typical good news/bad news situation.

The good:
-they can build the lines
-cost without a sight-glass is $75/set, seems reasonable.

The bad:
-In order to produce them, they need to build a checking
-fixture @ $2500-ouch! This may kill all interest in doing
this project.

So the question if we elect to proceed is, how to split the cost of the fixture to purchasers of the line sets. The price on the lines is my cost, but I won't be able to absorb the cost of the jig. If I have 50 sets built, the added cost to each set to cover the cost of the jig will add $50. Then what about set 51+? I think they should also help cover that cost, but how much since the first 50 guys already paid for it. A rebate program?

Let me know what you think and any ideas you may have, I'm open to whatever feedback.

If mot or Nay is around...how much was the JDM AC relocation kit? Personally, $125 sounds like a pretty good deal to me, 1-50 or 51-X. If they're not going to require 50 people sign on to buy right now then they're taking the risk and should have the reward when they get to 51+ sold.

Do you mean that there is no sight glass, or only the one on top of the dryer itself?

Personally on the cost-front I am fine with $125 plus some sort of rebate once more folks have started to order them (charge them $125 too). What was their "estimate" on how long to build the jig and get some units out in the field for testing? IIRC the ones from MOT were definitely higher than this figure.

I'm in for $125.

If you sell more than 50 a rebate would be nice, but using it to recoup your costs for the time and effort you have put forth on our behalf is also quite reasonable.

I'm ok with $125 and you keeping the difference on 50+ orders. You've put your time in and should be compensated.

Thanks for all the leg work.

Was there a cost with the site glass on the dryer?

$125 sound very reasonable. Rebate for the 1st 50 guys

I sure we can put somthing together

nevermind rebates. Put some towards 'mud instead.

I'd pay $125/set. How much extra for a sight glass?

I would skip the rebate and any profit made after the first 50 is your's to keep.

Or you could turn it all over to a vendor and let them handle things.

I only skimmed the whole thread but people would also what to get a bracket for the dryer. The holes are in the battery area for it but you would need to use nutserts or similar to mount it.

And I'd be in for a kit as well.

count me in still, price is reasonable, and besides, what are other options....nothing. I'd gather up the money from 50 of us and go from there.

Still in for $125

Still in at $125. If you rebate the first 50, how would you ever make $$ on it? Keep the price at $125 and then after 50, it will start making you a bit of profit.

Trick is going to be ensuring that you have 50+ people interested so you don't just break even.

Doesn't make sense to do this for free IMO.

Edit:
But look at the alternatives- IF you have an ARB you can get a skid plate for ~$90. If you have another aftermarket, high-clearance bumper, you're somewhat SOL unless you relocate the dryer. Having a relatively inexpensive and readily available way to move the dryer would allow bumper manufacturers (or owners) to create even higher clearance bumpers.

I say skip the Rebate. I will pay $125 and be extremly happy with what I dont have to worry about, Bam...pist...hisss.

If you feel guilty about compensation your much appreciated time, I wouldnt, then donate to Mud or tread lightly, etc.

Just found this thread and I'm in for the $125. Keep the extra after 50 and do what you want with it.

I'm in at $125. Keep the profits after the first 50 orders. Thanks for doing the leg work on this.

UPDATE

Sight-glass: It would be an in-line style like the one on the R134 system, not on the drier like the R12 system. It will add $20 to the price.

Time-frame: We're looking at 8 weeks from the word go.

Deposits: Ideally, I'd like to have everyone send checks for two reasons. 1) I can just hold them until I get the needed number and 2) I don't have to pay for credit card processing. Let me know if this presents problems.

Summary: We need consensus on the sight-glass, yes or no.
If I can get deposits for 35 sets, I'll place the order. Of course, I'd really like to have all 50 spoken for, but I'm not sure that's realistic.

Thanks,
Rex

Let me know when to send the check, I'm in for $125.00. Keep the extra for the effort you put in.

Count me in as well for $125

I am in...... I would prefer a sight glass
