Sbc swap with a 3spd requires the trans/ transfer to be moved foward about 6 inches, requiring the transfercase to need ( clearancing) as well as a big hole for the trans. People must have not had the tools to do a clean cut. The blue wrench seams to have been the go to tool back in the day! I have a 65 40 that had a sbc and a mechanical clutch linkage setup!! Talk about engineering and holes in the firewall🙄

Getting everything squared up and level. Unfortunately the PO body guy welded the passenger rear rocker on crooked. I need to fix that......then start on the rear floor support and frame mount.

I remember back awhile when i took my 40 tub and started my journey to turn it into a 45 look alike. Your project has started the look back in memory lane, looks good my friend.

Moving along fast, nice work !!

the regular cab fj45 has no room behind the seats, looks like you built the same thing give or take and inch or two. Great work so far but why not make more of an extra cab or space for a passenger ?

Nice build. Good work on that frame extension

Mine is a 4 inch stretch. I don't want to build an extra cab. Just enough extra for my seats to fit. I measured off my 68 FST. This truck is a day tripper and around town runner. 99% of the time I have no passenger.

It's your rig and I can appreciate your reasons for not wanting to go too long, but 4" barely seems like enough for the seats. I had a look at where my seats are in my 40, and 4" would barely let them go all the way back in their stock position. That's before moving them back an inch or two (which many people my height do).

Before you go even further down your current path, I'd double check your measurements and ensure 4" will be enough. I'd hate to see you do all this work and then wish it was a couple inches longer.

I appreciate all the input. I have done my homework. It will be fine.
I redid the top corner parts and got it all square and level. Added some floor supports. Now it time to wrap with sheet metal.

You planning on a opening hatch in the back of the cab? Unlike a regular 40 fumes from the exhaust Shouldn't be an issue.

Not sure your plan for a spare tire? Never explored how much more room would be needed to get it mounted underneath behind the axle. I know the FJ55 spare tire carrier fit nicely in the FJ45.

More than the length of the cab would be making it easier for drivetrains other than a six cylinder and three speed. Got a H42 in my 68 FJ40 using a transmission hump like on the left.

A torque tube like this would have made it much easier.

There is fraction of a inch clearance to the brake drum as it sits now. Do not feel the need for a V8, happy with a good running six. While the three on the column is fun to drive, with a floor shift will take a H42 over the J30.

Not sure what my plan is for a rear window. I am thinking it will be fixed and not open, as I may build a headache rack.
The spare will be a 40 tire carrier mount on my SWB style bed.

Got the sheet metal tacked on. I mean tack tack tacked on......lol

I did a 8” stretch and it was just enough to get a set of 2018 toyota tacoma seats in and still have leg room I am nearly 6’. Find your seats and make sure they will fit.
Yes they are a bit thick but plenty confy

My vehicle inspection went well on Friday. Yesterday, I went to the 3rd party MVD. Should have my title in 2 weeks. Easy peasy. I feel alot better about spending money on this thing now.

Another 3 day weekend coming up. Should have some more significant progress.

Thanks for the kudos. I try and do good with what I have. Need to buy some smaller mig wire. I keep burning holes in stuff....lol.

I chopped up the hardtop and started to fit the pieces. I don't plan to use the hatch, but bolted in the header for mock up.
