Looks promising! Last night we tore down the front axle again, pulled the diff and also pulled the rear diff. I spent a FEW hours with 320, 600, and 1500 grit sandpaper cleaning the carrier where the collar and orings set/seat. Today pat came over and set the backlash. We bench tested it and it held. We put the diffs in the housing and stabbed the axles...still holding. We will see tomorrow when we get weight on the truck.
Well a little update. In March at the roundup. My transmission began making noises and couldn't figure out what it was without taking the drivetrain out. After a few weeks of deliberation I decided to swap it out. I had a Turbo 400 out of a military truck and I decided to get a 5 to 1 Atlas.
You cant see it very well here, but I had to cut the rear floor board out. The strap is attached to the Roll Cage.
We had to build a crossmember to support the transmission.....this took a little while. We had to cut out section of the exhaust to get transmission in
I patched the shifter hole in the tranny hump and had to add onto the rear to cover the area that I had to cut out in the floor board. I used a Winters shifter(per Pat) and cut the gate going from forward to reverse out of it. Fabbed a piece of sheetmetal to raise the shifter for easier access
we built some covers to cover the area we had to cut out for the shocks when we linked it. They ended up ok...may changed up a few thing on them later.
Exactly. It won't flex after this (hopefully). BTW, when it does flex under a load and in a bind like pictured it breaks the turbo 400 housing. Just sayin...
Now who do you think is running this show? It'll be ready with days to spare. LOL Tranny will go to the shop on Monday and we'll have it back together by the end of the week I bet.
