Is the 250 the best size Landcruiser platform since the 40 series ?

Last thing.......even the 70 series has lost its way. $500 each headlights. Digital interior 'displays' and driver nannys. Toyota has lost its way.
So the tired 'just get a 70 series' crutch in every discussion carries no water.
The 70 series needs custom designed LED headlights, screens and nannys to do 70 series work? That makes that vehicle cheaper, more reliable and more dependable for the long haul?

Ford and Jeep sell about all they can make with the JL and Bronco.

That's not the competition?

Different class of vehicle, built for different reasons, and were designed with different things in mind.....almost 40 years apart.

Crazy that Toyota spent billions on a high strung, turbo/hybrid system, adding untold cost and complexity, taking up cargo space, only to get 1-2 mpg better than the tried, true, bulletproof 4.0 that it replaced.......In perfect, brand new, non-modded, small road tire, conditions

It’s almost like they do things just to keep themselves busy and employed.
I don’t believe the hybrid addition was strictly, or even mostly, for mpg gains. Rather, it’s about low end torque-extra power. I vaguely remember a Ben Hardy video review where he was complimenting this systems drivability.

you CAN buy a used vehicle.... just saying

Right...another often heard point.....just buy used.
What about in a few years when I'm looking a good used, low mileage, dependable, reliable SUV? Hybrids, turbos, bricked/out of date screens will be the 'used' choice then. On a Land Cruiser. That is the legacy Toyota is chasing?
Or, say I want new modern seals, a brand new transmisson, HVAC system, brakes, glass, crumple zones, strong A pillars, modern seats, new bushing, steering, bearings, all that.....in a new vehicle...... MINUS all the nannies, aides, tech, monitors, auto start/stop, 50 feature fully integrated screen/hvac/radio system, $2000 ABS pump that is tied into everything else, $500 head/tail lights, radar/lidar/gheydar, or any of the 30 things listed on the 'build it now' page.....its almost gross....and costly!

well, then there is no new vehicle on the market available to me......maybe one day simple, cheap, and reliable will come back into favor with the masses. I hope.

Sounds like someones writing toyota a letter!

That ship has sale, man. In 15 years, yes, all these hybrids/digital screen galore will be the used ones. By then these screens will be much easier and cheaper to fix than the analogue gauges that we have today. Think about a 70 or 80 series speed sensor gauge needing to be fixed today. It is so obsolete that it is hard to find parts and qualified people to do so. For the brief period I had an 80 series, the speed gauge would work intermittently and then stop. I took to a reputable shop with tons of 80 series experience, and they told me it would take forever to find parts to fix it and there was a good chance that, in the process of doing so, other things would break and other parts would be required too. I sold it before being able to fix. Don't get me wrong I love the beautiful analog gauges in a 200, for example, but in 20 years it will be much harder to fix that, then a digital screen.

Just think if the tried and true bulletproof 4.0 and 'simple' 5-6 speed was put into a vehicle with much improved aero and a focus on material science for weight loss, that would help city and highway MPG.
Then no need for turbos, batteries, and high voltage system integrated design. No doubt more expensive, complex, and less reliable than the previous powertrain.
Is that 'green'?
THEN no need to spend billions to design the entire new system (but how would that keep everyone employed? how silly of me!). There is no need for giant screens, leather power seats, BSM, FCTA, 12 cupholders, heated and cooled seats, auto dimming mirrors, heads up displays, inverters, 6 USB ports, turbos, battery packs, wireless charging, lane change assist, safe exit assist, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) .....on and on and on.....on a Land Cruiser.

Money green is all that matters, it seems.

Sorry, I'm just so disappointed at what the 250 could have been...for today and for the enjoyment in the future. 5 manual seats, 3 knobs for HVAC, 4 speakers with an easily replaced/upgradeable double din radio, 16" steel wheels, NA engine, mechanical locker, 32" tires, 6 speed auto, $40 Koito headlights, manual shift tcase, washable floors, and trimming all of the low hanging plastic off of the body.....what else do you need?
You already have that in your 1990 62. So why do you even give a s***?

20 years from now you just import a 2021 VDJ78 or VDJ79 cruiser and that will last you another 20 years . Problem solved 😉
