New member - same old white 80

Hello all, my name is Brian -

I will continue the CSC trend, yes another white 80. New to the Land Cruiser world but not Toyota 4wheel drive vehicles. Having owned a 94 4runner, '86 Pickup flatbed rock crawler and '07 FJC. Now the latest being a '96 Land Cruiser.

I bought the 80 earlier this year and started tearing into it a couple months ago once temps hit about 110. I will start a new thread with some mods I have since completed on the 80.

I have met a handful of members from this site through various ways, several from when I was into the rock crawling and had my pickup, others from craigslist purchases and as of late several members here have helped me considerably in learning the 80 and providing advice or assistance with projects. Thank you all. Look forward to meeting others at one of these next meets!

Nice rigs!! Welcome :grinpimp:

Hi folks, I just bought a '97 LX450 a couple of weeks back. Got it from a one-owner lady who drove kids to soccer practice in Palm Springs. Got 146,000 on it and it's in fantastic condition. It's black and beautiful and I'm leary to make it any less but I'm looking to get into the cruiser world a bit deeper. I've got the Mother's 3-step paste wax ready to go to keep the pinstriping to a minimum. :) I've gotten many compliments on it and once I pay it off, I'll be doing some modding. I've met quite a few people who've already filled my brain with great ideas on tech and fanciful ways to empty my wallet. This is a great bunch to be around, that's for sure. I've never done much off-road except getting my '82 Blazer stuck after I converted my auto hubs to manual hubs and failed to make the transfer case adjustments, but I'm looking forward to getting some trail time in. I'm looking for about level 6-7 on a scale of 1-10 and already have some trails in mind from a few fellow cruisers. I've got a 13 year in Boy Scouts and a 7 year old girl looking to get outdoors more so I'm planning on going out now and then to do some historical trails and back country ramblings coupled with a bit of camping. My better half doesn't like camping much unless they offer room service but I spent the weekend on an air mattress in the back of the rig and I think I've found the perfect tent for her! I've joined the Copper State Cruisers club but missed the first meeting for a Scout campout in Jerome where I met a couple of avid off-roaders coaching me along. I look forward to contributing to the cause and plan on tearing the front axle apart this weekend. That should nearly complete my maintenance and I'll be ready to roam about the state in the coming weeks. Thanks for having me!

Already posted on the main 100 Series Forum and was directed over here so I decided to take a peek.

I picked my new to me cruiser up last week. It's a 2000 with 43K original miles, grey interior and all records (window sticker, warranty manuals, etc.) included. It seems that all in all it's in pretty good shape all around.

My previous truck(s) are a `95 G-wagen and 2004 Tacoma 4x4 that I've listed in the classified section. Don't need either one now that I've got the "hundy". Like the Tacoma this won't stay stock too much longer but I'm still working out the list of modifications. I would like to retain the ride-quality of the cruiser while making her a bit more capable for some overland duty. I'll be adding things like:

- Bumpers (Slee looks like the choice)
- winch, tire carrier, jerry can rack
- OME lift (maybe the 1.5)
- Radio's (Ham and CB)
- OB air
- Dual battery

In process right now is:
- Leathrique treatment (now baking)
- complete interior detail
- Full service (belts, hoses plugs, filters, DT headers, TB/injector cleaning and anything else the truck needs)
- Replacing hood struts, hatch struts, remotes, antenna

Event though these trucks look pretty much the same there are some additional pics here for those that are interested: http://azmg.smugmug.com/Other/2000-T...6380&k=ZLPPVDt

Welcome and congrats on joining the Cruiser world. You will love the ride, capability, and reliability the hundy will give you. Quite the find with only 43K - rare!

Looks like you already have some bigger tires on it already, what are those - 28575r16's?

What is the leatherique treatment? I see some bagging to heat soak the solution of choice?

I've been looking for a solid 100 for quite a while and I had some pretty strict criteria. The truck had to have less than 50K mi, grey interior, one owner and all records. This one met all of the criteria and was located in Phoenix so pretty close for me.

Yep, tires are Nitto Terra Grappler AT's in 285/75/16 and have about 4K miles or less on them so won't need to replace those for a bit.

Leatherique is a leather treatment/cleaning system that I've used on quite a few cars over the last few years. It's the only one I've found that's actually good for the leather and does what its supposed to, and I've used Lexol and Connolly hide food (the original). If you use it according to the instructions (rejuvinator oil first then presitine (their spelling) clean) the oil brings the dirt to the surface and then wipes away with the cleaner, leaving the leather soft and like new. If you've skipped treating your interior for a while you'll need more than one treatment of the oil (I'm on 2 now), and it helps to roll up the windows and bag the seats for about 6-8 hours or so. No, I don't work with or for these folks and am not benefiting from posting this in any way. In fact there is already a thread about the product in your FAQ thread in the 100 Section here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/12774-success-leatherique.html

Website for the product is here: http://www.leatherique.com/

The new guy

Well I intro'd over on the main site. Somehow found the AZ sight searching google for help on some issues.

Anyway. Not new to 4wheeling, but new to Toyota. Grew up in Washington state, moved to PHX in 1990. Previously owned Nissan hardbody stock truck. Threw 29" tires on it and enjoyed the heck out of it with my son. Then traded up to 91 Range Rover classic. Loved it but it was a money pit.

Always loved the Fj40's, but never could afford one. Came across a deal on this one and couldn't pass it up. 1970 LC that the previous owner rescued from someones back yard in 1992. No engine, no trans. Was being used as a chicken coup. He dumped tons of money into it in 92,but only has about 4800 miles on it since then. Sad. So now I get to replace all the seals and such getting her back to regular duty. Would love to make a daily, but the 8MPG is holding that back.

Has built 350, 202 heads, decent cam and tons of lowend torque. Engine was built by a guy who built race engines for Manzanita Speedway racers. The distributor and carb are curved and jetted up to match the cam etc. supposedly has a Chevy 411 posi in the stock toyota rear end. Not sure yet as I haven't looked in there yet. Has disc conversion up front and turbo 350 trans. Had her out a few times and she goes well.

Issues:
Cooling. Of Course. Need to get the China alumn rad from ebay.
Braking. No booster. Would be nice as I plan to tow a boat next summer. Pedal Mushy too.
Rear main seal. Needs repl. I am not a Chevy guy. Mostly a Ford guy ( I also own a 1923 Ford roadster).
Rear axles seals ?? maybe . Keep finding fluid on garage floor at rear.

So far that is about it. Lots of rattles at the rear doors.
Love Love Love this vehicle. Looking for a top for it. Someday.

Would love to meet up and take a drive sometime.

Phil. Shoulda chosen the name "Flew da Coup"

Hello Everyone!
Nooby here to the forum. Name is Tim and am in Oregon starting on my 1970 FJ40 project. I am an aircraft mech looking for something other than an airplane to work on during my down time. Putting a Chevy 305 in with the AA adapters and coversion kits. Bought the 40 about 4 years ago and finally had the time to get the lost title thing worked out. Got it in the mail last weekend and now have spent all week so far tearing things apart. Looking to conversing with everyone and getting some advise and pointers for the project. I'll post alot of pics and experiences as I go. Thanks in advance to all those that will put up with my questions!
Cheers!
Tim

Welcome to the madness Tim. While we welcome all comers, I think you might find some closer help in one of the Oregon forums. Unless you're driving all the way to AZ every month.
