Weighed the 80 on a customer's scale the other day. With a full tank, my 185 lbs and another 100lbs of extras in the cab, it came in at 5300 pounds
I'm going to gain a few back with a front bumper, a rear winch, the extended cab seat, sliders and some more. I'm wondering how I can shed more to bring it back down?

Well it's fuel injected, so there's no carbs to cut out. I understand that's how a lot of people lose weight.

Lose those tires? What do they weigh? 5300 is a lot more than I would have thought.

Seats. put in some suspensions and you'll loose 75 at least.

I think my 37 mtrs weigh 74lbs

xml's are super heavy. 115 is what I recall too.

Planning on flat towing the 80 with an 05 Tacoma quad cab, am I risking our lives?

@Lcshack - why are you worried about weight? Seems like completely the wrong vehicle to be worried about weight or MPGs.

She's built for comfort, not heroin chic.

What's up with the towing? Is it not running or something? Not plated & tabbed?

Are you just planning to put the transmission & transfer case both in neutral & flat tow, or are you talking on a trailer?

Awesome grill, you do good work.

Wow, i love this build! It reminds me of this rig.

Not worried about mpg to a point but obviously better mpg means better range/less fuel to carry/less weight.
Less weight helps with fuel economy, can benefit offroad and reduces risk of breakage, especially with such heavy tires.
Why the big heavy tires? My thoughts were they provide me ground clearance and near bullet proof.
Was thinking of towing mainly for fear of something breaking on its first sure enough offroad trip and then forced to figure/fix it to get home.
Flat tow because I knew my Tacoma wouldn't pull it on a trailer and I was even still concerned about being able to safely flat tow. My kids will be with me and my old age gets me thinking about things differently.

Ditch the tires. Swap in some manual seats.
I did the manual seat thing there about 23 pounds lighter each if you remove the rear heater at the same time you can shave off about 55 pounds. The manual seats also net you about 1" more leg room, If your 6'4" the leg room is nice.

What was your plan for brakes, my guess is the Tacoma has the tow rating for 6K but you still need brakes & lights, Also if you break any thing axle related you have to fix it any way be for you can flat tow it. Plus you will be wearing out those expensive tires

Good points, even more reasons for me to just drive it there, take it easy and drive it home.
I'll update everyone with some pics of the trip and tell ya how it goes.
