I picked this unit up the other day because I have never seen one with this cool pull up screen. Not sure if these were offered here in the USA or if this maybe was on an import. I have had close to 20 FJ40's from the Wisconsin and surrounding areas over the years and we definitely have the cold weather but not one of my 40's ever had one of these. I posted the same pics to an old 2010 post that mentioned them but I think it is buried deep again. Does anyone have info on these screens? Were they an OEM option, different county, years available? Thanks in advance for any input!

might be from a BJ4?
I've got one on the shelf from a BJ60 series

Originally from Wisconsin and sure you will have a use for it. Not so much here in AZ. Even Northern Arizona is nothing like living on Lake Michigan.
LOL, the struggle is real.........honestly though I have to admit the winters we have had the last decade or so have been nothing compared to the winters I experienced in the early to mid 70's. Things are changing, must be all the plastic straws

I'm pretty sure that's OEM. I have an aussie bj42 and I was looking through the manual yesterday and there is a small section on it. I'll take a photo of it when I get home if you like.
That would be great, thank you very much!

Just saw one on a JDM HiAce. This thread helped me figure out what it was. No idea how an owner would know it was there or why this one was in the down position. Sadly, I think it was the cause of overheating and destroying an engine. :(

Well it is the only one I have ever seen in over 30 years so probably a bit rare I guess. I would possibly sell it if I could get to it.

I used an old section of water proof tent floor to make a curtain hanging from a piece of paracord tied to the radiator supports. It is easily adjustable to cover the bottom 2/3 of the rad. I usually run it at covering the bottom 1/4 to 1/3 of the rad. Once when pushing mud with the hubs in low range low right at freezing I had to remove the unit or the rig wanted to run hot

Because my curiosity got the best of me, I just had to know. The attached pics are from my microfiche set dated Jan. '81 and cover the US and Canadian markets for the FJ40 series and the FJ55. It appears that radiator wind shutter was only used on BJ40 from 03/78 to 07/80 and showing p/n 53180-90300.

Thats cool!! Thanks for the info, I could home brew something up but having a oem accessory is just next level cool

Yep these appeared into the 60 series but - haven’t looked at cold weather for 70s yet. Fancy version of cardboard that I really like.
