Installed a 4Runner TRD shifter in my ‘16 LC

Note the red stitching on that “all black” knob... (product photos 1 and 2 show this).

But personally, if the red thread bugged me, I’d just black-Sharpie that thread and call it done...

Heresy! Lose the black thread and lose the extra 5Hp gained with the installation of the knob! It's all part of the TRD Mojo.

Yes! When combined with the red TRD start button? That’s an extra 25hp! Woo!

They both have red stitching. However it faces away from you and you can’t even see it.

1) my shifter was worn out
2) I bought this for a 2014 4Runner (it comes on the 2019 TRD off road models)
3) Is didn’t match
4) I tried it in my truck
5) it did match
6) the shifter is nicer than the stock one
7) you should be a comedian

Please don't misunderstand me - I'm all in favor of the TRD shifter you posted about. No rationalization necessary. In fact, your post prompted me to search around for a good price on that shifter and I found the all black version - and ordered it. I was just making fun of those who expect TRD accessories to dramatically (by magic?) enhance performance. My back of the envelope calculation of the HP gains I've realized with my TRD wheels, TRD red Start/Stop button, TRD emergency brake cover, etc. is about 50HP! (yes, just kidding).

Thanks for your OP about the shifter - looking forward to receiving my black version Friday.

@dnh1 Does the post for your shifter have a bend in it near where it goes through the gate? Below the stock knob? My 2013 does and I'm wondering if the longer TRD knob will go over that kink without issue. Thanks

It kind of hurt my feelings no one liked my shift knob upgrade. I’ve been in a deep depression for days.

Hehe. I clicked like so you’re Good now. :)
I do like it and have actually thought about swapping that shifter into mine...mainly because the vinyl is getting annoyingly gummy...and the fake finish is rubbing off... My trim isn’t metallic though so figured it would look out of place.

Hey :poof: ( @gaijin )
...before seeing your post, I had just responded that I liked that shifter photo and need to replace my gummy one...but the metallic would look odd in my non-metallic interior.

Now I see you found a black one.
Do you have a link to it? Might be just the ticket...

I am not sure. I have a 2016 LC. I assume that the "post for [the] shifter" has been the same since 2008.

After all of this, I actually took the TRD shifter off after about a week because I didn't like how big it was. I went back to my OEM shifter.

I love the shifter on my ‘18 LX. My hands are a bit large as I can palm a basketball fairly easily, but it is still a short shifter.

Any way I can get you (or someone else with a 16+ LC) to snap a picture of the stock shifter and post from the side profile? I can’t find anything close enough to be sure on the googles. Makes sense to me as well that it hasn’t changed but I want to make sure before I drop $90 on one of these.

Ya, I’ve done the Sharpie thing before. :)

Truth is, any knob would work. It’s just that this shifter thread seems to go super tall and extends into the knob. Wishing it could be shorter...just to be out of the way of other stuff like my iPad mount location, etc.

Frankly tempted to shorten the rod since there are no electronics traveling up it...

EDIT! -On the “shortening” note...I just now started cranking it on tighter, and realized that if I just turn REALLY hard, it can keep threading downward drop a full 1/2” lower. That’s enough to let my knuckles clear my iPad shifting in or out of park! 👏 Who knew??

That exact shifter, fully functional, is in the Heritage Edition LC200! Honest! I read it on the interwebs!

Well, I guess blowing up the Jeep in front of me makes up for the deleted cool box.
