Thanks you guys!
What gear ratio did you regear to? And did you do the gear work yourself?

I regeared to 4.88s. I pulled the thirds, but didn't want to take any chances when setting up the gears so I took them to a place in Tulsa, OK. Set up both for $400.

Your rig looks great! JW but what front bumper is that?

The bumper is an Ironman Deluxe Bull Bar.

Thnx for the reply. Do you think these would stick out without flares? I can't quite tell in that last pic.

I think they would probably stick out just a little bit. It would be very close.

Great looking ride! What model/year did those wheels come off of?

Not quite sure what year these were off of specifically, but they are from a 2011-2014 FJ Cruiser. I have seen them on several 4Runners, but I'm not sure if they come stock on them.

Edit: It appears they are factory on 2010 Trail Edition 4Runners.

Comparing rigs isn't a healthy thing but yours sits apart visually and aesthetically from the rest of the crowd (IM very HO). What on earth are you ever going to do if you get that thing scratched on a trail run????

Good job picking those wheels over the steelies you had, much better fit with your setup.

I'm going to throw a few Q's over on your build thread, FYI.

well done!

Thanks I'll be on the lookout.
About the scratches...
They buff out! After a time stuck in the river where I had 8" of water in the front floor boards, the starter got water-logged and I had to be pulled back 4 or so miles through narrow dog tracks and 7 foot tall brush. I had scratches all over, not to mention also warped my front bumper and partially cracked a front flare when the bumper warped up into it. I spent at least 6 hours just hand buffing the black around the windows. Oklahoma is a pretty sucky place to live when it comes to off roading. It's either super sticky red clay or super sketchy sandy rivers. I've spent enough of my time cleaning/fixing to learn my lesson.

Drove in snow and ice yesterday, and got it off road today. Did really well in sand and mud. The tread cleans very quickly.

Be honest... you washed it immediately after hitting the mud :flipoff2:

@bmac1996acc , He better have washed it.
@SUMMIT CRUISERS Jr Oh no, you got it muddy.
J.K. Garrett, Looks great! Don't worry about the Car Wash. Weather moving in. Ready to build the swing out this weekend? It looks like it will cover up your Overland badge though.

As crazy as it sounds, I didn't wash it. I wanted to get the salt and sand off from when it snowed, but with more coming in tomorrow it would have been a waste...and it was like 30 degrees yesterday.

Maybe i missed it in the original post. But what size are your new tires? Are the FJ cruser 17" steel wheels the same size and off set? I have a set of those locally that i am thinking about picking up.

My new tires are 35x12.5r17. The FJ Cruiser steelies should be the exact specs as they are made to be a replacement wheel for them.

I was looking for a new set of tires on CL and came across a set of these with 33" Open Country wheels with very low tread for a steal. So I couldn't pass it up. Problem is, no lug nuts! I read on here that my factory '91 lugs will not work. Summit what lug nuts did you use and do you think these will work or have a better solution?:

Thanks!

Those lug nuts will not work. Those are the acorn style. That's what was on the 91-92s stock. These new FJ/4Runner rims require the flat washer style lug nuts. I used some ebay lug nuts with Gorilla lock nuts.

Once the tires and wheels were mounted and painted, I had to order the flat washer style of lug nuts and locking lug nuts. I also ordered an Air Lift 1000 to help the rear end from sagging when loaded down with the RTT, gear, and bikes.

What are the red discs with the 4 holes? My Airlift didn't come with this. I am using model 60728.

Those red disks are for placing the bags with the air input shaft on the bottom between the top of the spring base and the bag. The air line runs down through the center hole.

Awesome. I came home and did a quick inspection to see that the lug cavities on the wheels were flat where the lug seats so I ruled out the acorns. Thanks for your response. I am confused though. You used both the regular nuts and the locking nuts? Did you use one locking nut per wheel? I knew of locking nuts but assumed one would use all 24 of whatever type.

Yes, I used 1 locking lug per wheel to keep someone from jacking up my truck and taking my wheels and tires. It would have been very expensive to buy 24 locking out nuts vs buying 4 locking lug nuts and 20 plain lug nuts.

Got it - that would help me as my air input shaft gets tweaked all the time. What model number did you order?
