I know LEDs "make night like day" and are all the rage but I don't want any....I wasn't entirely sure why (more a "gut feeling") until recently a buddy mentioned getting "period correct" lights for spot/floods and it suddenly all made sense.

So, I don't want to spend a relative fortune on Lightforce or other units although those are essentially what I'm after - round lights that effectively complement the look of my '92 that also provide an immediately noticeable improvement over stock brights (I run HIRs for both standard and brights, FYI).

What's your "best bang for the buck" recommendation here, details above factored in? Are "cheapies" from Harbor Freight acceptable or do I need to go way beyond that? Specifics make/model along with your personal experience (or that of others) would be appreciated.

Thx in advance.....(yes, I've searched a bit, albeit a couple of months ago, but didn't seem to find the specific answer/recommendation I was after).

thx!

I was like you at first. Thought I wanted round lights. So I went with the Pro Comp 9131 lights. Nice quality and good output at about $40 each

But then I decided to join the current century and go with LEDs. $130 for this light bar is a no brainer. No regrets

This pic of your rig makes me want to punch you square in the throat. Best looking front-end, bar none. The head lights, LED's, bumper, attachments, everything. First class man, nice job.

I have KC Day Liters in stainless steel (SS). Super bright, super durable, and period correct as they have been around at least since the 80's and popular with off roaders well up into the '90s as far as I've seen. Cost between 110.00 and a little over 200.00 depending on the halogen wattage and painted, chrome or SS for the pair. KC's are known for their durability that will cost big bucks in similarly durable LED. KC in HID are very spendy. They come with an excellent harness and shock absorbing mounting. Summit Racing is a reasonable source as is Amazon. Be careful because KC also has another line with a similar sounding name highlites or something like that. The more vintage ones I'm speaking of are 6" and the others are smaller and don;t look as stout. You can go to the KC website and see the differences. They do draw some watts and they do have several watt options. I will post a picture of mine bolted to the OEM bumper if you'd like.

I've been using the KC apollo 100s for a lot of years now, first on the jeep, and now on my 80.. They're black high impact poly, cost was, I think 120 or so.. I like the way they look on the Short Bus and they provide plenty of light.

Um, you dont want to do that, he's a cop :)

Jose- love that front end, truly a masterpiece.

Yup I had the KC's back in the 80's and they were durable and bright. - Had them on a blue '83 Toyota pickup, with a 3" lift, rollbar, and the 'required' Goodrich Radial T/A's

I am not the poHlice!! I stare at Excel spreadsheets all day, but thanks :)

The people have spoken! Thx guys.....KC Daylighters looking like a winner. Long day, can't stare at another computer screen, will fall back to this tomorrow when I'm feeling like this is important again :).

I cracked up at the first post (in a good way!)......goth-green monstaliner/skull atop the bumper cross-bar with a quote "I was like you at first"......I'm not so sure about that one :) (kidding....terrific rig, seen plenty of pics of that one, well done!).

period correct lights would be the IPF square or round lights for the 80 series.
PIAA period correct would be the model called the 90 pro which were driving lights with amber fog lights integrated into one body! too bad they have been discontinued for a while....every now and then i do see them for sale but a lot more expensive than they were 15-20 years ago.

Top photo is much better - looks awesome. The square lights look so wrong :(

Agreed, I never liked the looks of the square bars on these rigs :meh:

Round is the way to go :)

Here are my el cheapo 7" 100watt Halogen spots from N/T

For the money, they cannot be beat!!

Real glass lenses (not plastic), snap on grills, 100watt H3 bulbs and only $7 bucks a pop

That's less than what you can actually buy the bulb itself for at your local auto parts store

I have since upgraded to 9" 55watt FleaBay HID floods (bumper) and spots (rack)

A bit slow to warm up (7-8 seconds), but once they start cookin, road reflectors and street signs become blinding

They're also surprisingly well built with rubber seals and waterproof connectors :smokin:
