Head is off, it looks like around #6 is where the gasket failed, no surprise there. Still not as bad as I thought it would look though. Sending the head to the machine tomorrow, then I can get started on cleaning everything else! :hillbilly:

I am ridiculously behind on updating the build! I have a ton of great photos and details I will try to post soon. As of now the LX is up and running strong! Right after the motor build I installed our Front Runner roof rack, ICON 3" lift, TOYO 315/75/R16 Open Country MT's, and Level 9 Tracker wheels.

This is starting to look like my old build. I sold it 2 years ago with a hair under 100k on the odometer. That was a massive mistake. I will never find a cleaner one. I regret that sell but don't miss being worried about scratching the paint on the trail. The new 80 is fully rhino lined with plenty of dents. I now can enjoy the trail and not even worry about the trail carnage.
Here is the old girl:

what rear bumper is that @bhicks ???

are those the "custom" in your sig?

I designed the bumpers on my old 80 myself. I couldn't find a bumper out there that I liked. I'm not a fan of 250lb. plus plate bumpers. I wanted something light, functional, and strong so I just designed and welded up my own. They weren't the prettiest but they were exactly what I wanted. I'm a mechanical Engineering teacher so the design and structural testing was easy. It was the fabricating that was challenging. I'm no fabricator so it took way longer then it should have to figure out how to use the tube bender and make welds that were structurally sound. Lots of wasted material before I got everything dialed in.

Here is the old bumper build thread. Page 1 and 2 are the CAD design process. I'm linking to page 3 where I started fabrication:

So its been a while, but I am once again a proud owner of a Land Cruiser.. err Lexus LX450! I was fortunate to find this very clean 96. The rig is pretty solid, 2 owner with 202k on the odometer. The PO noticed some oil in the coolant overflow tank and decided to sell it to avoid the hassle of doing the HG.

I was the GM at Man-A-Fre for about 10 years, leaving there about 4 years ago to head Front Runner Outfitters in the US. The 80 series have definitely always been my favorite model Cruiser, I cant wait to tear into it and build it up. These projects are pretty much never ending but hopefully you will see it soon at some of the Front Runner shows!

I will be documenting the build here and on Instagram, if anyone wants to follow me there my name is @lxfourfifty.

What did you do with the chrome Toyota wheels? I have the peeling version and would like to find much better ones. Of course, you're in SoCal and I'm in the Midwest, so freight is a killer......

Nice build! Thanks for the detailed pics. I just bought a locked 80 project with a blown hg so i'll be doing this soon. I also love that rear bumper.

That LX is clean! The paint looks great, I was lucky to find this scheme, it has always been one of my favorites

I still have the wheels and have been trying to sell them local on craigslist. Gone through about 5 or 6 flakes now, its starting to drive me crazy. PM me with an offer and your zip code, I can find out how much to ship them.
