19W - T8 LED - 5000K - LifeBulb LBT8F2250

T8 LED, no wiring changes required, 2200 lumens, 5000k, $14/ea. $40/fixture plus $56 in tubes = $100 per location.

Big Ass Fans are sweet, but FAR more than I need to spend. If this was a fulltime shop, sure...but it's a hobby shop...

Check Costco for LED shop fixtures. Put two in my garage, love them. They were on coupon for like $40, fixture and bulbs.
good call...I do recall some there...

Looks good woody. I *really* wanted LEDs, but they were just stupid pricey- 4x as much. And I didn't like that if the bulb breaks or burns out, you are out $250 for that light. I ended up going fluorescent and have been very pleased.

I would advise a recommend 2 things based on my shop build
1- make a separate insulated room with a door for your air compressor, either inside or outside the shop. your neighbors and wife will thank you. and you won't feel guilty working at 11PM. This is on my todo list.
2- add at least 1 plug that has a USB outlet on it for your phone/ipad etc. I use mine all the time

Speaking of air compressors.

Will you plumb several outlets for air, or just use long hoses? Don't forget to put one outside.

The time to think about that would be before you close in the walls if you want hidden air plumbing.

Also, you may want to sheath the inside walls with 1/2'" plywood up to 8'. It will give give a 100% chance of getting a screw point in the right place for anything you want to attach to the wall.

Looks like an awesome project. Green with envy. Post a pic of the whole spread.

Those lights will go fast at Cosco, here in MD they had pallets of them the last time around, between Friday and Sunday they were wiped out.
Personally I've stuck with fluorescents, I've scored several sets off ebay in the T8s style often for $10 for a 4 bulb setup. I just got about 75 two bulb t8's out of a building they were remodeling for free, to bad you weren't closer I'd give you what you needed!

Perhaps some skylights...and a beer fridge, it would be heaven to work somewhere like this!!

T-8 41K lamp put out more lumens than the Costco LED

T-8 41K 4' still produce the best output/$

A smart shopper can buy a name brand 4' 2 lamp fixture with cover for <$20 and 4' 41K T-8 name brand lamps <$2 ea

T-8 lamps are rated at 10,000 hours thats a lot of time in the shop:eek:

T-8's IMHO still can't be beat for lumens/cost but they do use more juice and take a bit to warm up in my barn when its 20 degrees outside!

The more I shop, the more T8's are making sense. Just need to track down the right deal and get a dozen 8'ers. No rush, we are barely home for the next 3 weeks.

And NO skylights...tops 110 here in the summertime, so keeping the sun out will be a must for parts of the year. The W wall being bermed 12' will help a ton with temps, but 110 is still hot :)

Costco in StG had a pallet+ of the 4' LED lights at $29ea...picked up 4.

Just told the builder where the beer fridge goes (even he was shocked that wasn't already in the plans!) He's studding in the walls in the toilet room and in the sink/fridge area today. Last needed tiles for the roof should show soon. Electrician has all the outside stuff prepped and the stucco guys have a start on the backing/wire for the base.

Have you lit up any of those cosco's yet? I haven't seen them personally, only in pics from other forums, but you can never really tell from that. I'd like to hear your opinion of them when you get some T8's and can put them side by side.
