Hi, I was wondering if anyone could identify this part for me, it is near the front left wheel. There seems to be some play in it when turning the wheels and I was wondering if this is normal.

I think we are looking at a power steering rack mount. They will wear out but it there is a flexible bushing in there so a tiny bit of flex is expected. Too much and it is time for bushings. It's a big job.

Also next time a have a bigger pic picture.. and then a little bit zoomed in. Great think HH got it. I was scratching my head.

100% Steering Rack. Any play is signs of worn bushings shown there. You probably have some weird steering going on while on the highway.

Depending on the rack's age and if its leaking, you can just replace the bushings and put the rack back. But you may want to just replace the whole rack if it has a lot of miles on it. See the threads below on how to remove it. I was able to do it, it was my first multiple banana job.

I recently had the same issue, had a shop replace the bushings, should have just done the whole rack cause it still doesn’t feel 100%. Yes the job sucks, was about $300 in labor just for the bushings

@LC CT The next wear item after the bushings is the inner tie rods. It's a ball and socket with a plastic lining. Easy to R&R but usually requires an alignment job.

Hmmmm, this might be my issue, I’m up to 2 alignments in 2 months, what’s one more, I’d assume inner boot removal, new clamp, any info on the inner install?

It has play per se but only about .5 to 1mm only, more than that your LC will not track straight on the road as an initial symptom. You can go for an OEM replacement part or go for an aftermarket polyurethane bushing like this one.

I had to have my rack replaced some years ago and had the stealership do it. It was sort of an emergency because i was moving overseas. I sourced the new parts from aka Beno as I had planned to diy it and it was half the price of my dealer. I went ahead and tossed new TREs on since they were going to have to come off anyway.

The stealership tried to charge me labor for both the rack replacement and tre replacement. It was about 1/3 again the price of the rack going in. They acted surprised I new wtf I was talking about and erased that charge. Gave me pause to think there are people going in there getting double charged for stuff all the time.

Thanks for the help, gonna get some aftermarket ones and replace them as i've noticed my steering going to the left on highways
