kids are getting bigger so i'm thinking of moving up in size this fall to between 17 and 19' with an outboard. i figure it's important to keep the hole in the ocean where you pour money as small as you can.

I love my boat but you should know that boats are GAS HOGS IN SPADES.
My boat is a 19 foot I/O with a 4.3 V6 Chebby and it burns about 7 gallons per hour of engine operation. Gas was $4.15 a gallon on the fuel dock at Lake Powell a couple weeks ago.
So, it costs almost 30 bucks an hour just to fuel it.......

i gotta 19.5 bayliner with a cheby four cylinder...1987...excellent condition...very nice trailer...i think the boat has actually been in the water 5 maybe 10 times..stored ina barn its entire life...needs motor work

I want a friend with a Boat!
I have had 6 different boats in my short life here in Charleston. The older I got, the bigger and faster they got, and the more money they sucked out of my wallet!
You don't want a boat.....You want a friend with a boat. He takes you out, you pay for beer and a little gas money. No worries at the end of the day. Let him make payments, insurance, registration, property taxes (on boat and then on the motor)
PS - even if you are not using the boat, something breaks. I could never figure it out.... Walk away and everything works, come back next weekend, and the
(insert various part here) is broken. It broke just sitting there!!

Outboards are the only way to go in my opinion. Until you get over 30' or so, then go with Cat turbo diesel true inboards. I have never had more headaches than with an i/o, its a pain to maintain with the engine buried in a very tiny hole, drink a lot of gas and the through hull for the drive sucks ass too. I dont care if its a bravo drive, volvo, arneson.....they are a bitch to work on.
