I'd probably use the fryer at home, move the fryer mess out of the kitchen and into the garage or back porch. Probably not wroth it for the few times a year we eat fried foods at home.

I know some people have gotten them or similar. Yellowstone has had some problems with people duping the used oil on the ground. The bears try to dig it up and eat it which food conditions them to humans. That usually leads to their demise. "A fed bear is a dead bear." is the saying, and it is so true. Anyways when I first heard of them all I could think of is that they would be perfect bear bait. Just the sort of thing you need to attract the bear right to your campsite. The used oil has a nice pleasing aroma to bears and is there for hours as it cools.

I'm pretty sure I saw that style of expandable tent at Canadian Tire fairly recently, and it would have been either Coleman or Broadstone, but nothing on the site now though.

The reason you see so much of this available in Japan is because Yakiniku, Korean style Barbeque, is extremely popular. That style of restaurant is around every corner, and Japanese camp style cooking tends to mimic this.
