Any chance those calipers are meant for vented rotors?
difference in the two calipers is solid axle vs v6 ifs. the ifs had vented rotors like land cruisers (but the rotor had a smaller center hole, iirc). the solid axle used single rotor. the calipers you've got appear to be v6 ifs calipers, so they would take a vented rotor.

wish i'd read this thread a bit sooner...i have damn near all the parts to rebuild the front end, including multiple sets of marlin seals and i no longer have any axles to put them in. even have an oem knuckle centering kit. d'oh

if anyone needs any rebuild parts, give me a holler and i'll make you deal. the pig will soon be under 80 series axles and the 45 and annie are both ball and claw and drums.

knuckle studs/nuts/cones/washers, marlin and oem axle seals, trunnion bearings. i'll have to check the wheel bearings...some crossed over to 80, iirc so i may keep those. gaskets...pretty much all oem toyota.

gonna do any throw out bearings? i got one oem and one koyo too ;)

What was the trick?

Measured the offset, made spacers. Unconventional, but it works.

i would check to make sure the pistons will extend far enough without popping the seals

Good idea. I already calculated the factory caliper width bare, piston travel, rotor width and pad thickness. With the spacers, everything is within spec.
When it was offset, the outboard pistons would have popped out before contacting the rotor.

Pics of the original offset, with spacers and centered, and full assembly.

I wasn’t really satisfied with the spacers, so I took another swing at this thing.

Ended up ditching the calipers, going with 81 LC calipers, vented rotors and pads. It all lines up so much better now.

The new MC is 76-80 LC. Bitch to bleed, but is already an improvement.

Much better

A whole lot of cleaning contacts, sockets, connectors etc. and now the lights blink too!

Wipers move too, but slow

Heater fan works on low speed, but not high(pointless, since no defroster ducts, bad heater core and no hoses hooked up), but while I was on a roll...

Alternator is now charging

Horn is still not, radio may never.

Progress for today. Air cleaner installed.

Found out today, after bleeding brakes, and getting good pedal feel, that we have 1 disc brake rim, and 4 drum brake rims. Drivers front spins freely, passenger hits caliper?

Did they change these when they went to factory discs in 76? Or do we need to find FJ60-80 or aftermarket rims?

Jason...there's probably one closer to you, but I do have a single disc brake rim with complete clips, refinished in OEM-like gray, over here in Grand Junction. At least that would get you rolling.
