I got round cup holders for my 80

I had some free time so I went ahead and made some changes on my website. Now when you order a cup holder you can just click on the "travel mug" insert as an option on the cup holder page. It adds $6 to the total. Sold seperately they are now $12 instead of $15. The sold seperately ones are more because they have to be shipped individually and not just added into the cup holder box. Hopefully that will make things easier. I have not been able to figure out how to do that on etsy yet. I'm calling it for tonight. I will figure etsy out some time in the next couple days. For the folks that ordered cup holders today with inserts, you will get a small refund once I process the orders in the morning.

I forgot to mention. I took down the black cup holder with gray inserts option. I had it up for almost two weeks and nobody purchased one. I even contacted the 1/2 dozen folks that asked for it and they all went with the gray cup holder. No point in keeping a product option out there that nobody wants. I try to limit my options as much as posssible for my sanity. If anyone wants the black cup holder with any color insert then just shoot me a PM/start a coversation and let me know that your order has a custom color request. I should have snapped some pics of the black cup holder with red inserts I sent out a few weeks back. It looked pretty sick with that color combo. Definitely does not look factory in any way but did look cool.

Holds my Stanley very well... water bottle... not so much

Looks like the insert IS needed for the water bottle. I was a little confused on why my water bottles don't move around then remembered that I have version one. It was a slightly smaller cup holder. The issue with that one is that the Nalgene and large fast food cups didn't fit so I had to make it a tad larger. The insert will definitely snug that up. I'm pretty sure the water bottle is one of the few containers that actually fits in that tiny cup holder next to the driver on the side of the center console. So there is at least that option. I wish there was a one size fits all type set up but I just haven't come across that yet. At least I was able to drastically drop the cost of those inserts on my website. Hopefully someday soon I will be able to add the inserts to the cup holder for no extra cost. I need the filament to come down in cost about another 30% before I can do that. Luckily the folks over in China have been selling the cheap stuff for even cheaper which has been forcing the premium US made stuff (which I use) to lower there prices to be somewhat competitive.

Follow-up here on the 20oz soda bottle. The travel mug insert is a no-go with this particular size. I mean, it fits, but it only goes about 1/2" into the holder so it would fall out very easily. I think a 16oz bottle would be a nice fit. I'll follow up on that another time.

And of course, my particular style of travel mug narrows at the center, but I like it too much to change for one that fits the holder better.

Wow. you guys just keep throwing me curve balls. I have never seen that mug or even anything similar to it. If it's too tight for the insert then it should fit fine without the insert. I have not seen a mug with the curvy sides like that. I guess there is another mug type I need to see if I can account for.

That's a 20oz Coke

I forgot to mention something in my last post. For the orders that came in on Thursday and Friday, I would normally ship them all Saturday morning. Well... yesterday my new baby girl came home so I was a tad distracted. I had some family up today so recruited some of them to box up my orders and prep them to ship tomorrow. I told them just to air on the side of "more bubble wrap". They WILL ship tomorrow morning.

Wow. I was looking at that totally wrong. I was seeing the red part as the lid not the lable on the middle of the bottle. Now that I know what it is it makes perfect sense. Was the 20oz. bottle tippy WITHOUT the insert? I have had a few 20oz. bottles in my cup holder and didn't notice them being tippy.

So apparently the insert fits the travel mugs and waterbottles, the cup holder without the insert but WITH the TEQ inserts fits almost all fast food cups, and the cup holder with no inserts fits the sports/nalgene bottles. Now i have to figure out this 20oz. soda bottle thing. Some day my product will cover everything. I don't really want to add another type of insert so I need to find a way to modify the one I have to also accept those soda bottles. I was hopeful that almost useless factory cup holder on the side of the console behind the e-brake would hold it but I am being told it can't either. I will figure this out.

Yes it was tippy without the insert. See one of my previous posts. Same style of bottle. I'm really not worried about it though. I'm just posting these images for your future customers really. ;-)

The only type of cup holder I've seen that can account for all of these things has an automatically adjustable size component to it like this or with a malleable foam or rubber lip at the top.

I have been looking for an adjustable insert like that to repalce the ones I have. the issue is that I can't find one big enough. I made the main body of the cup holder big enough to accept a nalgene bottle which then makes it too big for those adjustable inserts. As a teacher, I have spring break in a couple weeks and plan to but some time into the insert design and see if I can make it even more universal. Right now all projects are on hold with the new baby here.

Take your time and enjoy the new addition. I wasn't trying to get you to make something new... just wondering if what you already have would work.

This is what needs to be incorporated in the design to satisfy all tastes and needs.
Spring loaded tabs.

That would take a LOT more time and parts to make without an injection molding machine. I would love to do something like that but it's just outside of what I can manufacturer. Well.....at least in a way that would be affordable.

Seems like a lot of work to cater to all types of cups... I just keep a couple foam koozies in the center console - if the cup/bottle fits loosely in the holders (I have a single @bhicks holder, and the @musthave stainless insert for the factory console,) put the koozie on it. Bonus to the koozie is that there are zero rattles!
