The seats are like brand new, as is the dash, they both have TERRIBLE covers on them. Deciding what to do with both of em, enjoy em or protect them, probably the former.

I think they look fine - enjoy them until you can't stand them!

While you're planning your power steering, try one of THESE - kind of a psuedo power steering - it will make life much easier - Disclaimer: assuming it's legal in your state... I don't know of any state that has a law against them, but do your own due diligence.

I use mine, with power steering and can steer around most anything in my path... I used one years (and years) ago, when I was 12 and working on an Arkansas farm, on a 2-ton 52 Chevy stake bed truck (no PS) and a John Deere tractor. At about 80 or less lbs, I couldn't have driven either otherwise.

ordered. That looks like it could provide some temporary relief. Thanks!

wow looks nice. good lucking color to

I say enjoy it for a while and then see if you really want power steering and during that time do some research here and there on which might be best for you. I am to the point at the moment where the non-power steering does not bother me and is something "vintage to me" that might change though, its also my gym workout in the event i get some seat time in the 40.
I met one owner that said once he replaced his tie-rods and did a steering rebuild it felt so much better steering. If yours are newer maybe some grease in the joint will help.

I say drive it for a while and do little things and you will figure out what modification you might want to change. I originally was thinking a roll cage and much bigger tires were in my picture but now im thinking the stock or slightly modified might suit me as I dont plan to make it an offroad vehicle and Flordia doesnt have much like the west coast in orv

great looking 40:beer: they have always been my dream vehicle/project like yours to

Saw this posted on SF Bay CL. Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the madness!

welcome , you came to the rigth place to learn all you need to know about LC
be careful if you install a Steering Wheel Spinner , if the wheel hit the sidewalk at low speed the steering is going to turn realy fast and you can hurt yourself , just want to warn you so now your safe ;)

Ahh! I would have learned that the hard way for sure. Thanks, I will at least know know that I should have known better the first time this happens.

Going up to 35-40# frt tire press will make the steering much easier. I drove a 40 with one arm for 6 mos with a spinner . worked well.

Visually the tires look a touch low to me, I was going to make it to a filling station tonight and see if I could give them a little more pressure.

Are you local? I have been searching the area for around 6 months now, really happy with this one. PO is great, and very happy with the truck and condition.

I see a couple have already pointed out that the front bezel is upside down. Fix that and all your problems will go away! Really nice 40 though!

Looking at the pictures now, of corse it is. I will fix that tonight, and go through all the fuses / cleaning contacts etc and see if that starts helping. Bezel should be thick on top, thin on the bottom, so the emblem is centered correct?

Thanks again for everything.

Yes, I am local (East Bay). Took me about the same time to find mine. Patience is good with finding the right 40 :D

Welcome to the fun and madness of ownership.
You need a few more lights. ;)
Shane

PO was an electrician, which i suppose explains all the extra lights. He put a second power system in for all the aux lighting etc. The spot lights are not something I would have done personally, but they are there, and they work quite well.

Congrats. Im in redwood city/sf as well. I have to track down the grounds on my turn signals and my power steering is currently not working. I have an ome lift just barely makes the parking garage in sf. Local reputable cruiser mechanics would be Georg at Stockton and Gary Kardum at Mudrak in Sonoma.

WoW! You've got a very clean rig. Most of my "New" FJ40 is laying on tables in my garage. I can't wait until all I have to do is get my tail lights working. You are wise to patiently find a clean, running 40. I believe 4x4labs is down near you, they make some nice goodies. Also, I just learned there is a roll cage guru down there by the name of FC Fab. I gather he is really busy but might be worth a look. And yes, Georg of Valley Hybrids in Stockton is "The Man who CAN". He just helped me out big time.

Cheers

So down for a get together. Any suggestions for locations? I like the idea of pacifica, half moon bay, or alice's restaurant....but that is not necessarily central. Maybe we should start a new thread.

Actually I know the perfect spot, its a bit of a trek for me, but have any of you been to Warehouse Cafe in Port Costa? Its a super bizzare / cool place right on the delta, huge gravel parking lot.

reminds me of my 73 that i bought new in 73 for only 3600 bucks good luck with the addiction

First Sunday of every month they have a car show here near my house at the Blackhawk Plaza in Danville. Don't see many 4x4's there. Might be cool to get a bunch of us together there... All vehicles are open to attending - a Mini car club shows up even. Lots of old cars and lots of newer cars too. We would definitely stand out compared to the Mustangs, Vettes, and muscle cars... :)
