Sorry to hear that Dave, hope everything goes well today.

Thanks guys. I liken our Ava to an old Land Cruiser. She's tough as nails...she runs great and has no serious mechanical issues, but she is a continual work in progress. Slowly but surely we are getting her where she needs to be. This particular surgery is for eye alignment. We've been through it before. It shouldn't be too bad. Prayers are appreciated though.

Good news for someone, bad news for Izzy, I have to bow out. Family vacation the same weekend, I am bummed but we couldnt find a home to rent on the July 4th week which was our plan! Sorry guys. I would still volunteer to take a group up on a different date, non-club event. Let me know if any one is interested.
Now we will just be wandering aimlessly in the woods

Anyone ever mess with a rocket stove of any design?

One of the kids in the scout troop has an old man whose a machinist. He made up a nice twig burner just big enough for two cups of coffee. It's a nice set up. Fast with little fuel.

Folks,

I am going to have to bow out of this trip. My daughter, Ava is having a surgical procedure on the 6th. We just found out the surgery date yesterday. I know the HC trip will be tons of fun. Being at HC in the Spring has got to be a great experience. I hope the weather cooperates and everyone has a safe trip.

Dave

Dave,

You'll be in our thoughts and prayers with this one. Good luck with the surgery and recovery. We'll see you again soon.

Lets talk a little food and food prep. Keep in mind, we'll not know how many rigs and if we are splitting into smaller groups until we meet up at the rest stop.

We'll have:
small charcoal grill
Coleman 2 burner
perhaps a grate for over the fire
fold out "kitchen" with table space
small side table

It is pretty easy to set up a small kitchen to cook what anyone needs by combining supplies

We carry washable plates and silverware for two

I think most will have similar fare for breakfast, eggs, bacon, pancakes etc so cooking should be straight forward.

I will have the charcoal grill going for dinner for all to use as needed

Bring lots of WATER

Here are some of the things I can bring if wanted - just let me know:
  • 7 Gal square water cube (maybe 2, can only find one right now)
  • 10 or 12 Cup Perculators Stainless Steel
  • Weber Hibachi Gril (with lid, fold up)
  • Camp Chef Explorer 2-burner (no propane tanks, had to leave them in KS)
  • Camp Chef Charcoal Table (great for dutch ovens, etc)
  • 6 Qt or 4Qt Dutch Oven w/ Liners, etc
  • 20" Lumberjack Steel Skillet (big one)
  • Fold Up Tablet

We are bringing our own camp chairs. We will have 5 Gal of Gas on the bumper for the group, if needed.

I can bring my kitchen pull behind or my jacuzzi and kitchen combo. Just need to connect to 220V to power it up with the microwave, then its all good to go.

Izzy - If you bring one of those, I will commit to take over your 10 gallons of water for the group.

On a side note, but in the same spirit - - -

Might be using some unexpected tax money for a new fridge! Gotta get the dual battery done if we do that. . . . so much to do and so little money to do it with!

I run a single battery + carry an Antigravity XPS, on multi-day trips to OBX the fridge (Engel 35qt) doesn't draw the battery down at all. I upgraded to a Northstar battery, with crazy reserve and CCA............

I have a grill grate w/ stand to bring for placement over the fire; Coleman 2-burner stove; some pots and pans; and a backpacker stove.

Has everyone decided what outfits they'll be wearing? It is spring, post-Easter, so I hope to see some spring dresses and shoes. I guess white is ok now, although mauves/lavenders with lime green and silver/white gold accessories are timeless............
