I had this exact same idea and regret not doing it right away. I've several times had a need for it. But would like to see someone else try it first...

Installed this over the weekend. My only critique is the crappy sound padding/damping material tears easily and was kind of a hassle to trim and fit. Will probably rip out and lay down some extra Kilmat I have from doing the doors.

Did keep the springs at full length - happy for the support not slamming down when loaded. Otherwise may throw on some carpet later - on the fence as having a flat surface is nice, but can see it getting hot in the sun. Overall a fun project.

Great Deal on Hurrican storage / cheers : way less than getting one shipped

Anybody else come up with better slides for the gap flap.

I also kept the spring on mine but the tailgate is still quite heavy. I also did not remove the OE barrel lock. I had to grind off the bolt excess from the passenger side latch. It was interfering with the barrel lock.

Caution:

There was a malfunction with the cable pulls and I almost couldn't get my tailgate open because it is way tight up against my ARB drawer. And loosening the drawer is impossible while the tailgate is closed. Anyway, the cable pull came off the drivers side latch. I was barely able to reach my finger in there and to pull on the cable. I'm going to secure it with a zip tie or something.

On my last truck, I had both of these issues (interference with lock cylinder and gap cover catching on latches) and also couldn't figure out how to add lift-assist to the tail gate. If someone finds a solution for these issues, I will definitely consider buying another one.

I must have the lock cylinder setup that works well with these—no problems there. My slider thingmos seem to work well too. And while I initially kissed the tailgate assist spring, my tailgate no longer feels like it weighs 250 lbs—it only feels like 60 now, so perhaps going springless is a good workout regimen?

Yes, but it was still too heavy for my kids and even for my wife. The weight actually caught my wife a few times by surprise!

Yeah, I have to keep an eye on the kids, too--I'm not so much worried about them lifting it (they'd give up after about one second) as I am about them reaching up to undo the tailgate and having it come crashing down on them, which would probably be a concern even with the spring intact, as the stuff I've got in the tailgate weighs enough that the return spring wouldn't make for a soft landing. My wife can hoist that thing right up, and she's fine opening it too, after a bit of a learning curve . . .
We've managed a couple camping trips so far with 0 child fatalities, so I think we're probably out of the woods.

Same here. Thankfully my new rust free tailgate cables prevented it from smacking the bumper when she dropped it.

I experimented with a pickup truck tailgate assist on my 100's tailgate but was unable to find a clean way to fit it. The short height of the 100's tailgate makes trying to fit the assist quite challenging.

I still have no elegant solution for gap flap. It looks like two pieces of fuel hose will work for now.

I found if I lined the little adhesive sliders up with the latches on the Huracan door, it pops right over.

For the tailgate assist, maybe a beefier torsion bar?

Looks like an old thread about this for the 80's, mentioning the same, but not certain if it was done...

I ended up pulling out the stock assist bar since it kept snagging on recovery straps being stored in the tailgate.

Anyone else re-using the existing carpet to cover the Huracan door? Works out pretty well, I think.

I waited until the Huracan was installed to adhere the carpet because I thought I would be able to reach under the inner edge of the carpet to get an Allen wrench in there to assist with the bolt tightening. That kinda worked... but since I wanted the plastic carpet edging sandwiched between the tailgate and the Huracan, there wasn't a lot of play in there, and for the corners it didn't work. I ended up putting small holes in the carpet to put the Allen wrench in, can't really tell they're there after. Next time, I would just glue the whole carpet down first and make little holes for every bolt.

I see some people leave the center support when doing this install and others don’t. Has anyone actually had any trouble after cutting the center support out? There is a post on the a 100 series Facebook group and a guy used a marine hatch. I am contemplating doing a 13 x 40” hatch or two smaller hatches, leaving the center support intact. Or I could do the large hatch and still leave the center.

Any feedback?
