I just have to say, if you're going to do it yourself, use the engine lifting method. Thanks to a POS aftermarket rack from P@rtsGeek being valved in reverse, I'm doing it for a second time (with a rack from Toyota). I used the method in the Toyota manual the first go-around. Using the lifting method, it'll take several hours off the job, particularly around trying to reinstall that bitch of an oil cooler. I hope to never do that again in my life. But yeah, it's not fun, but it isn't crazy difficult when using the engine lifting method.

And if you're ever wondering what it's like to see a rack valved in reverse, Google videos of steering rack lines reversed. It's a quick way to break fingers and wrists. :)

Got my rack installed by a professional. I read and read but didn’t feel comfortable installing it myself. And also didn’t want to spend two days installing it

Got the OEM rack from groove Toyota on Broadway who price matched a online price. Bought the rack for $484 + $24 for a steering grommet

The Toyota specialist charged me $652 for labor, power steering conditioner flush and a alignment.

Drives a lot better with the new rack and suspension.

It was brand spanking new. Originally they wanted $800+ for the rack. I showed them what Larry H miller Toyota in Colorado Springs was charging and they price matched it. Didn’t feel like driving 2hours round trip to pickup the rack.

You did way better than I did! I think I paid around $600 for the rack? I bought new TREs as well. Did you replace your ends?

No, I didn’t replace the TRE’s. I told them to replace it if needed, but it was in good condition , just reused it.

Got it. I figured if I was going in I was going to freshen them up as well.

How many miles did you get out of your previous rack?

Almost 170K on the 99LX.

we bought new for my father in December of 98 and he has been driving it for the last 20 years. I do most of the maintenance for him.
so far only wear and maintenance items
Only last year we had a slight crack on the Original radiator and a new starter a few years back

This year replaced the AHC with Dobinsons shocks , coils and torsion bar and a steering rack

We"ll probably can get another 20 years out of the LX

Has anyone got heavier steering after installing a new OEM rack?

Kuhyuan,

Man I'm showing 756 bucks for the steering rack from Larry Miller toyota..??

Any insight on the 484 dollar rack?

Love to score that deal.. Thanks for any insight...

Did you feel how stiff the new inner rod ends were vs. the old ones?

My old ends were really floppy.

If your steering seems unreasonably stiff, take it in immediately.

Its just a slight difference i expected it to be lighter not heavier for a new one, its lexus after all. However, i have 33" tires.

I ordered fro Mcgeorge Toyota a few months ago for $505 shipped
that is a great shipped price. After seeing the package and noticing the steering rack was already protruding out of the box, I think it was better to pick it up in person. Don’t want to get it damaged in shipping and having to return it. It’s pretty heavy.
