Just replaced mine today with the Wit's end kit. Went pretty smooth.

However, when I first started the car it was leaking a lot of gas out of the hard line inlet.

I backed it out and retorqued it, really cranked down on it. And now it seems ok.

Anyone have this happen or know why it would have leaked so much? Not like it was finger tight.

Obviously I'm now paranoid my Cruiser is going to explode.
Didn't take much force for mine to come off, so when it came time for the new filter I hand threaded it all the way with the filternot bolted down, and then once bolted in place just snugged it up with a wrench. No leaks

If your worried about it you could pop the like back off just to inspect

Used the Wits’ End kit to replace my fuel filter today at 231,000 miles. Easy 20 minute job if I don’t include the 10 minutes I spent cutting the top off the old one to see what it looked like. Dark minor sludge in bottom and the filter paper itself was somewhat dark but don’t know what the original color was.

I just went for it. put down a couple towels and it was fine.
Same here. There was some fuel but the towel caught it.

Thanks for this thread, got this job done in 15min. Changed out what im guessing was the original fuel filter.

How many miles on that coffee filter??
I think it was 235k miles.

Just completed this fuel filter replacement project yesterday. Going in the appeal to me was that it such a low cost maintenance item ($35 or so - which is gold compared to most other jobs (06 LX)) and seemingly pretty easy for a novice. I considered responses that it is not a required item (and a mechanic that stated the same) but something about that didn't ring true to me. My rig has had a few prior owners and I have no idea if it's been done before, quality of gas used, etc...plus just curious and with more time on my hands these days during pandemic.

I am writing this post for fellow novice owners mechanics because my first attempt a couple of weeks ago ended in frustration as I failed to loosen the hard line nut and stopped as I was afraid of damaging it. Did not use a 14mm flare nut wrench (used a reg flat one) - wish I had, as I rounded the nut a bit. After reading this thread and regrouping, I re-attempted and it took about 30min all in. A couple of tips that I felt worked were (1) using a cloth tied around the exposed threat soaked w PB Blaster and letting it sit for a while, and (2) good pair of vise grips with a counter-balancing crescent wrench on the 19mm welded nut on the filter. As long as you go slow and purposefully, it's an easy project (with right tools and MUD advice stated above!). Definitely pack some rags underneath old filter as you remove it to catch spare fuel. Car restarted easily (after leaving it in the mid-cycle start for a bit to re-pressurize).

All in, glad I attempted it - below is a pic of the gas that left the old filter from the engine-end...brown color and plenty of bits that I would not want flowing through the system. I plan on giving the tank a "cold one" (Techron cleaner treatment) this week to celebrate the job.

It just makes so much sense for us American, middle-income drivers to do these cheap preventative maintenance items. Why not?

Anyone use the wix 33875 fuel filter on rock auto.

Question for those of you that did this. I forgot to look before but are there still supposed to be
Some exposed threads when everything is tight. The threaded 14mm male part looked longer than the the threaded female 19mm end but wanted to make sure. Also the bolt holding the assembly closer to the engine sheared off. Think the bolt closest to the drivers side wheel is enough to keep it secure for mall cruising . I can’t imagine the effort to drill that out there’s not much

someone...lifeline, can I get by wiTh only one of the fuel filter assembly mount bolts while mall cruising. Feels solid

I am far from an expert, but I'm sure some will chime in. I would think one bolt will hold that filter just fine. Not really a severe duty part/location.

I used WIX Filter - 33526- looked like an exact replacement filter only. Had to resuse the bracket and green clip

Yeah I shoukd have reused the bracket. Wanted a non rusty one and figured it would be the same. I was wrong. Bolt is sheared off in the tough to reach side hold anyway.
Not sure what I’m gonna do.

Thanks to you all on this thread, I got my changed in about 40 minutes, including letting the PB Blaster sit. Gas that leaked out didn’t seem to bad on mine with 250k on it. I didn’t cut it apart though.
