Minipigg nice of you to post the 55 info, I've always been curious about just how many were produced.
I don't think Cruiserguy said anything negative regarding your info he was just making a statement, and he got the number wrong, big deal!
And like you said let's not turn this into a pissing contest.
I'm reaaly sorry to here about your health issue, that's got to be hell to deal with.
All the best to you ,

Lou

I was going off the tone made with the exclamation marks at the end of his statements.. not to mention the double !!... :p

It's just all part of internet etiquette. Just as BIG LETTERS are seen as people yelling. double !! are seen as making a very strong point.

ei... Don't touch that!!

You know my girl friend alway reminds me that it's hard to read ones tone
in a text, as I'm getting pissed at something I thought she meant in a text. It's no big deal.
I konw this is a bit of a Hijack I need your advice, I just bought a JUKI Industrial sewing machine. never stiched a thing, but want to make new panels etc.. for the truck. I'll pm you sometime next week.

I'm a '55 owner as well as a 45LV owner and a '60 owner too. I like them all. I was just saying that the '55, while rare (my kids had not seen a '55 before we got this one about 4-5 years ago) is not the rarest of all 'Cruisers. It's tough to find parts for all of them.

I'm not trying to upset or offend anyone.

As for the original question, I probably would recommend against a '55 as a daily driver on the east coast due to rust issues (I assume that NC has rust issues). I think we can all agree that the '55 seems to be a rust magnet :) and with parts becoming harder to find all the time there is no reason to turn a good piggy into iron oxide before it's time.

ok... a photo or two is good and make and model number. I got ta tell you it a real easy after you have done it a few times.

It it my own opinion that an FJ55 properly maintained makes a very nice daily driver. It all depends on what shape you find it in rust and cancer wise. Its no different then driving a big truck. Take your time, never be in a hurry, and drive it like a tractor. Out of all the seasons it is winter ice and snow that I enjoy my pig the most. In the winter it is good to bring it to a car wash or car drive thru and have the under belly cleaned on the winter road grime and what ever else is used for ice in your area. I good tune up, oil changes, valve adjustments, etc... and your gold. If you have some other engine and such then I reckon the valve adjustment isnt needed. :D

pig for a DD?

am having to work out of state and drive mine about 400 miles a week.............have to:frown:but really enjoy it and just have to take a bit more time to get there.........all pigs will need work, very very well engineered but still over 30 years old............the good thing is that if you have a small amount of mechanical smarts you can work on yours with out a lot of sophisticated expensive equipment.....pit falls that I have seen often:steer:............jumping into an engine exchange without a well thought out plan and before exploring getting the original stuff working .........IMO get it running well fix all the little nagging mechanical details ........then drive it a lot.......they honestly LIKE to be driven and the more I drive mine the smoother it get:steer:.....then if more HP is desired.........sell it and buy a Hummer:idea::lol: in the long run it will be cheaper:D my 0.02

Lou

P.S. a well enginered motor transplant is awsome :) to name a few examples.....Exiled, NAT, Luke111, Cruiser_Guy Scott/Goebs all have lovely examples but they are very expensive not only in money but in time and labor, and for every nice one that I have seen, have also seen a lot more failed abandoned attempts.........toyota's mechanical engineers that designed our LCs are a lot smarter than I will ever be:hhmm:

Nothing wrong with a '55 as a daily driver as long as one is aware that you cannot run to the dealer and expect to find stuff in stock ready to go.

We've pretty much worked out the bugs on ours and it's more or less at daily driver status.

I was pretty lucky, my 55 had very little rust to deal with, I puchased it in Flagstaff AZ, but I live in Northern Va just outside of Wash DC. its very damp and wet here, its a pigs worst nightmare. So I'll be doing a frame off in the next year or two and remove the roof and getting into every crack and crease to protect my pig ,(now I just need to find a way to pay for that).
So if you find a nice pig, and I think MiniPigg found some nice examples for you, pay a little extra for one that has history, pictures of work, as in rust repair etc.... you'll sleep better with that info.
We all know this, you will spend the money if you get the Pig Fever. My plan was to get the lights working and install a 4spd, that went right out the window after the Pig Fever got me.
So like Lou aka n2666s said, have a plan and work with it. Best of luck in your search for a pig.

I gave morgan fletcher a some links to that information but they are no longer good. I will see what I can do to run the information down again.

It has been a very long time since I read the production numbers... but I think, and dont quote me on this, that the 1968 model only had about 2000 made.

Ok part of the url still works.... somewhat.... anyway I asked brother Mot if he could help get the information. I could be looking the correct link in my face and not know it due to my not speaking any Japanese. I hope the guy lets us have the scans he made for his website. There is a good amount of information in those scans from Toyota publications. If he does we can post that information in the faq

This is the fellows FJ55 that has the information we seek. I have to say he did very well in the restoration.

Lee,

Welcome to MUD and the Pig pen!!!

I am also in the Fort. I do not think I have seen any '68 Pigs running around though. Is yours on the road?

I have some posts trying to get production numbers and the nukber shipped to the US...

I know '68 is nice and rare!

We are having a club meeting tonight in Loveland: CO/WY- Horsetooth 4 Wheelers Cruiser Club - IH8MUD Forums

Just had a pm from Mot. He said he posted on the board for the man in Japan that has the information we seek. Like I said before this fellow has it all scanned direct from Toyota. There are some Toyota pubs and FSM as well. So I hope we can get it all. I did have it all copied at one time. Was on my IBM.... nice crash sent those files to their deaths and lost the cd's they were stored on. And ofcourse I figured giving the urls to Morgan would solve any future issues with information... hahaha...

So if we can get this valuable information.... the Holy Grail of IronPig... We Knights must keep and guard it with every ounce of our being.

Not to mention placing it in an FJ55 FAQ file and making it a sticky....

Peace:cheers:

oh btw... all 1969 and down should be saved no matter how messed up they are. These are rare. But being Toyotas are so resilient ... it is no wounder we find so many rare ones still around.
