Nice 40! I have a big question, restoring my 60/25 as we type, the windshield brackets in the interior, does it look like the bolts were plated or painted with the body? Can't clearly see. Thank's John P#3 And welcome!

Nice looking early FJ40. Do you have the doors to go with the early bows? My the people in the picture I assume you could date the picture? Just curious about the tires. Seen military NDT tires in advertisement but most old pictures show Dunlop RK3 tires. Were the tires in the picture the tires that were on it new?

Here are pictures of my 61

Do with have a VIN for your 61. My earliest 40 is 1FJ40~10202 and has the air intake on the driver's apron. My later 61 in the 10800+ range does not.

I am also sorry to hear someone stole your FJ60.:frown: Seems to be a pretty common problem along the west coast. Most that get reported here seem to be from CA, OR and WA.

Can't tell for sure because it's been painted over I think. Found some more pictures. Has a wrinkled fender on the passenger side but other than that not a ding or rust anywhere except a little showing on the rear sill.

I have the doors and the bows for the FJ.
The kid with the cowboy hat is me, so the picture was taken in 1963 or 1964.
The Toyota came from the dealer with the NDT tires.

I always thought that this Toyota was a 1963 model, now I am not so sure. What year did Toyota manufacture serial #14,592?

Husker..What a cool find. Seems pretty unmolested and does look like the HT brother to my ST.

Ken

Thanks for that information about tires. Not sure how easy the NDT are to find anymore. I believe most are NDCC now. But still a close bias tire. The Dunlop RK3s are impossible to get in the US. Those were the other tires used. Not at home to tell for sure on what model year you would call it but your VIN should start with 2. Not at home to check but I'm guessing your dash doesn't have a ash tray and defrost vents in the windshield. To be honest I don't think Toyota really had a true model year chance back then. I have a technical bulletin that shows changes by VIN for each change. My 68 which is a early 68 made in 67 has major changes from 67. But then in 69 Toyota make some pretty good changes early in 69. The model year compared to production date is a topic that disgusted on Mud for years.

as stated above... it would be a 1962 build date.... your vin will read (2-fj40-14592) .... here are a few other 62's around your vin on the registry:

2-fj40-14380 vin1963 FJ40L engF162263 (bone yard)
2-fj40-14390 reg62 FJ40L engF162290 'hdjtachtig'
2-fj40-14592 reg63? FJ40L 'eltioloco'
2-fj40-15401 reg63 FJ40L 'OwyheeJackass'

all factory soft tops (FST) even :)

do you have the canvas?

I do have the canvas but it is very rotten.

After owning it for only a couple of years my Dad built a tin half cab for it. The factory canvas top was stored in the rafters of the shop, but unfortunately they rotted anyway.

Very cool this registry makes all these early 40s appear! Just wondering: could anyone estimate how many there are which are not supported on mud, and how many would there be in barns which are not found yet. Probably more than we think.

Probably a better amount percentage of gross wise since the older sheet metal doesn't rust away like the 70-80s.
