Strange question. Does any know how long the driver side front drive shaft is? Or can I just measure from the center of the "pumpkin" to the Birfield to get a good idea? I have to re do my Birfields but will be working in tight quarters on the driver side. It would really suck to get it all apart and not have enough room to slide the axle out. Kind of hard to move the truck at that point. Other option would be to do passenger side and turn truck around then do driver. Not ideal but not really the worst thing. I tend to do one side at a time anyway.

Your approximate approach to measuring will work. Yeah it would suck if you did not have the room. I usually get it done in my drive way.

I am also working in my driveway. But I have a fence close to the driver side. That would suck to get both sides completely torn down and realize that I don't have enough room.

Do you mean DRIVE SHAFT or AXLE SHAFT and BIRFIELD?

Then, yes, the distance from the wheel hub to the approximate center of the punkin' It can clear about 8" shorter than that depending on what all you're taking off and the fact that the Birfield joint bends.

Or cut a glory hole in the fence.

Thanks guys. I sorted it out by finding a bigger location to work. That is kind of the obvious solution.

But where's the excitement and challenge in that?
