I’ve been working on rebuilding a couple of warn 8274 winches. Picked mine up locally with only a part of the controller. The second one came without a lot of stuff, controller being one of the pieces. I could have just bought a newer plastic one for $130 or so each. Instead I decided to make my own. I had some locally sourced oak boards 2” thick. Spent some time with the hand saw and made a couple. Ended up being $25 each by the time all was done. Still finishing up, but here they are. One on left needs a second coat of Tung oil.
I did have a bit of a Cheech and Chong moment.

trying to explain this is like explaining what the color blue looks like to someone who was born blind or trying to describe what great music sounds like to someone who was born deaf, or why driving a fj55 feels right when there are plenty of modern cars available.

It’s the experience.

No matter how hard you try it just can't be done and the only way to truly know what its like is to actually experience it.

Anyone on IG needs to check out this guy from Oz going by the handle “oldmatesawyer”. He’s into fabricating FJ45 beds, but very easy to see how some of the stuff he’s using could also be used to make some 55 parts.
