Dp you guys suggest replacing the ring when replacing the pin?

I would, the old rough surface of the ring can wear a new pin quickly. This happened to me. Replaced both the second go round. I suppose you can sand it smooth if you needed to, but I’d rather buy a new part.

Thanks bro. I appreciate you thoughts...

Huh, just looked up 84312-20011 on Norwalk and it didn't come up at all. Yet on Amazon it comes up for $10.

Weird.

My rig came without a working horn. I bet this is it. I'm about to order parts, do i need a steering wheel puller or will it just come off once unbolted? Also i cannot seem to figure out why the POWER fuse is missing and am reluctant to put one in as everything works but the horn? I assume it is the power antenna fuse? That 2 does not work as it is broken off at the base.

You shouldn’t need a puller. Just loosen the nut and then pull the wheel loose. Once it’s loose then take the nut/wheel off.

If you’re talking about an FJ60 they didn’t come with power antenna. I’m not familiar with the fuse you’re speaking of off the top of my head, but it probably does something. I don’t recall there being an open fuse slot that is labeled like something should be there.

I've never been able to pull the wheel w/out a puller. I can imagine smashing your face with it as you yank at the wheel. I believe the small bolts are 8mm that go into the wheel if you go for a puller make sure it's for import vehicles.

Make sure you mark the stem and wheel so that when you go to put the wheel back on it will be centered. A fine sharpie or punch will work for this.

Also instead or in addition to the 22 shell, you can shim out the ring with 3 small washers under the ring at the screw attachment points.

Also this may come in handy:
A much easier method of installing the steering wheel is to put the horn buttons and cover on the steering wheel before putting the wheel on the column. This way your not torso twisting and putting your head under the column. Install the horn signal wire connector (that goes from horn buttons to pin ring terminal) to the wheel while the wheel is off the column. This way you can get to the back side and using a screwdriver make sure the connector is tight. Push the land cruiser emblem out of the middle of the cover. Then still while the wheel is off turn it over and install the 3 screws to secure the cover. Then using a socket and extension go thru the hole in the center of the cover to put the wheel back on the stem. Finally push the land cruiser emblem back in.

That's great info, thanks @gman. I am still unsure of what the (empty when i bought it) POWER fuse slot pictured is for? yes i have a 60 and its 1984.

I'm wondering if they were in the process of designing the accommodation for power windows and/or door locks back in 84 and had already allocated a location in the fuse panel for that. I'll check the decal on my fuse panel cover in my 62 tomorrow and see which one that fuse is for mine.

Hmmmmm I just replaced mine the other day and only removed the steering wheel and a few other screws off of that wiring system. Just enough to slightly pull it away from steering rod to pull the old pin out. I should have took pictures because it literally only took about 20 minutes. Got a tip from a local guy here how to do it. I also steel wooled the inside of the contact on the wheel side and put some dialectic grease so it wouldn't wear down as fast.

Ordered a new Horn Pin. Toyota calls it a "Plate." SOR calls it a "Horn Brush."

The part consisted of the pin, a spring, and a little c-clip (not pictured)

This is how far apart I took it to fix this thing. My dash looks blue, camera flash is responsible.

I think it was worth replacing wouldn't you say?

Never seen a photo of a new pin next to an old one so I wanted to share my findings.

And the Horn works perfectly now :)

Ready for some butt-heads that cut me off in traffic ;)

Question on pulling out the headlight and turn signal switch assembly - does it clear the steering column without unplugging the big connector from the bottom? In your pic it looks like you were able to do so without disconnecting but just releasing the cables/harness from the retainer clamps, is this correct? I want to try this in order to have better control and access for installing the c-clip which I lost today after it went flying (just like this forum warned me it would!)

I don’t believe I had to disconnect the harness. Just got it loose to get enough slack on it. This was some time ago but I don’t see why I’d leave it hanging like that for a photo otherwise. HTH

Does the old pin pull straight out or is there a trick?

Once the wire is disconnected and the c-clip is removed, yes.
