I replaced my horn pin a few years ago with a new one, although I didn't replace the ring on the wheel. I lubricated with dielectric grease, thinking it's slow the wear, but it didn't.

This is my ring. Doesn't appear to be that worn down:

.22lr casing for the win. I've got a little baggie of spares in my center console now:

Next time I'll replace the pin and ring at the same time like @klinetime574 said. No way the pin should wear out on its own in less than 10 years.

Yeah, I still need to do this. I think I bought a replacement a few months ago (I think). Need to find it... Horn is sort of intermittent these days.

I just got back from specter with a new plate and horn pin but the pin does not have a spring on it! When I disassembled my steering wheel there is no pin there either. I understand why you need a spring. Does the spring go on the steering wheel side of the turn signal assembly or the engine side?

Any tricks to that little c-clip? Trying to avoid chasing that thing down into the column!
I used a smaller pair of curved needle nose pliers, both to remove and to reinstall.

is it not possible to get a new pin for this problem anymore? I need to pass a state inspection haha

I got the plate pin from toyota but the ring is factory melted in (in my hj60) so I did not replace that:

PLATE 84312-20011 (cost 9 euro) =PIN with spring and c-clip
RING 45176-20030 (cost 16 euro)

I used graphite powder for door locks to lubricate the ring and pin.

Ha, funny this came up again. I replaced both the pin and ring on my 60 again recently.

In my 60, the ring was not melted in, it was just held in with screws. Easy to replace.

that does not look factory...someone lost their screws.

Thanks for the reply,
The plastic tabs look different, it was pretty solid and maybe replaced before but the old looked fine.

As soon as it fails I will use some screws and replace anyway, steering wheel went off very easy.

This made me have an ah ha moment... awhile back I found a bullet casting wedged up inbeteeen the dash and the windshield. Its now in my ash tray. Guess it had a purpose but lost its way by a PO. :) I did recently buy a new pin, spring and clip tho so I'm glad this thread was resurfaced. Thanks all!

@klinetime574 Thanks for the writeup and especially the photos! After putting this job off for almost two years I finally ordered parts from @beno and got to work. Why did I wait so long? Took me about 20 minutes, so easy. If anyone is looking to do this fix I highly recommend taking the turn signal stalk off (only four screws hold it in place). Doing so makes getting to the backside really easy.

Glad this old thread is getting some use!

I just tried the spent .22 LR shell trick without success. I've got the replacement pin from Toyota, but couldn't get the ignition/turn signal housing screws to budge. It seems that all of my phillips screwdrivers are missing, save a rather small one. After seeing the wear on the pin, I'm going to order another two of them the next time I'm placing an order where they are available.

When the horn isn't working, is this usually the first piece that goes bad on the TLC? I was thinking it was my horn housing and was going to order some hella horns to replace the OEM ones.

I think it was worth replacing wouldn't you say?

Never seen a photo of a new pin next to an old one so I wanted to share my findings.

And the Horn works perfectly now :)

Ready for some butt-heads that cut me off in traffic ;)

I used a .22 shell casing slipped over the end of mine several years ago. Horn works great, and I can pretend I'm shooting at them when I honk. :rage:

I just used a pair of needle nose pliers to both pull the old c clip off and put the new one on. Was able to undo the switch assembly but not pull it off the column.

When I got my truck the horn didnt work (got it last year). Before I broke out the ohm meter to check connections I happened to be turning the wheel with a button pushed and the horn beeped one time. This told me everthing was good with the horn and circuit but there was something wrong in the switch. And shortly after I saw the thread on the plunger....I ordered a new OEM part off Amazon for a couple bucks shipped and put it in.

Dp you guys suggest replacing the ring when replacing the pin?
