Ouch. StrongArm 4551L & 4551R, limited lifetime guarantee, currently $25 each on Amazon. Lift hatch is StrongArm 6290 ($38 for 2).

Not sure you should worry too much over $86 if you’re going to drive a Land Cruiser but I wanted to make sure the poster knew that OEM was still an option. My OEM ones lasted over 20 years so pretty good service life.

And thanks for that. I for one was unaware until I saw your post...

Let us know what brand works please.
StrongArm 4551L & 4551R. Walmart had them for $19.97 ea. plus free delivery. Shipped direct from Lift Supports Depot

Have none of you had a prop rod fail because you hit it while working in the engine bay? No? Just me? OK.

Also, the rod is usually right in the way of a tough spot to get to (from my experience). I love hood supports. Having said that, I know that hood struts can fail and also drop the hood on you but both of them at the same time? Maybe because you cheaped out and didn't buy the OEM ones.

I've had several recent frustrations on my 80 and most of them have been due to PO cutting corners here and there. Aftermarket starter, missing parts and pieces, misplaced bolts etc. Also it has given me frustrations with 26 year old, 280k+ mile parts that should have been replaced years ago. The one conclusion I draw from this? Spend the money on OEM parts if available, don't cheap out. It's the same with my house; PO cut corners along the way and now I have to pay for it, almost double. Once to fix the issue and another to replace broken/missing/cobbled parts.

I bought these and installed them on my 80 last December. They work great – super easy to install & they are sturdy. I haven’t had any issues with them. They’re a good price, too.
Here’s a link to them on Amazon. (You can see my review w/ pictures on the bottom of the product ad).

So is it a simple as buying qty 2 of these OEM struts and plug play? Just wondering if I need to order any other bits and bobs. Many thanks !

That's all you need but they are left and right so you have to order 1 each. I replaced mine a year or so ago. They drop right in. No hood bending required. :D

Everyone that owns a Land Cruiser should go to ToyoDIY.com and sign up. It's free. You can still find parts without signing up but you get more functionality by registering. You can then put in your VIN or region, year and model and pull up all the parts diagrams with numbers. Sometimes something isn't 100% clear but this resource answers at least 98% of all parts questions.

You probably don't need the bolts but they came with the cut and paste.
