So what do these pieces do?

I have owned three 80s and have never seen that on them, I didn’t even know that was a thing till now. Those spots on one of my 80s are used to mount the oem hood deflector. Does that serve the same purpose as the core support seal?

I contacted a Toyota engineer friend and this was his reply on the seals -

Those Hood seals, above each headlamp and in the middle of the hood leading edge, are there to make sure the air flows as designed through the radiator. They somewhat prevent air from flowing in under the front edge of the hood and causing a weird(unplanned) pressure condition in the engine compartment that could cause conditions that are not favorable to drawing air in through the condenser/radiator path.
They also help prevent a lot of water and crud from coming in under that same leading edge and getting all over the engine/drive belts which would cause other problems, of course.

Always consider ALL environments when looking at LC parts. It might not matter in North America, but Arctic Russia, Jungles in South America, the Bush in Australia, the Mountains in Afghanistan, the salty coast of Oman and other places can generate some weird requirements to make something a "Global" design. Customer usage in each region also gets attention when things break from unexpected customer usage. People in other(Not North America) regions find really crazy things to use their vehicle for.

One of the many reasons why I love this global platform of a vehicle.

Top class Phil top class. 감사합니다.

Sounds like those seals should be in place in order for optimal cooling system operation. I’ve always replaced them just because I knew something was supposed to be there.

I can hear the parts department cash register ringing already.

Random question: is that leading edge rubber thingie supposed to go across the full length of the hood? Mine seems to be missing the center section, if there is supposed to be one...

That pic of the white Cruiser was all I needed. My hood is a filthy, dark green and I couldn't tell that it mounted 6 inches aft of the leading edge of the hood. Makes complete sense now. I'm in good shape. Thanks mudders.

Yep, many were removed to install bug deflectors. Don't know that the eyebrow moldings have a purpose, so the same usefulness as the bug deflector?
My bad, poor wording of question on my part. I meant does the eyebrow moldings serve the same purpose as the center molding. But LCP answered this in an extremely precise and awesome way.

Amazing work.

Toyota may have designed the eyebrows to be cooling devices, and failed? I have tattered ones on mine, on wheeling rigs they take a beating. The left one was mostly ripped off, ran about a year without before replacing it. A couple we work on, came without, have been replaced. Never been able to detect a difference in the commonly measured temps. One of the rigs that we often travel with, that consistently runs the coolest, doesn't have them. :meh:

Installed today. Comes with the attachment nipples.
