Put in a solid 7 hours on the 47 today, mostly on bodywork, and starting with the aprons

next set - fitting the lamps and marking their leading edges. I had one set up right; the other had way to much filler on. All said and done, when the shape it right, the edge of the apron ahead of the sealing lip on the marker lamp has about 1/16"~1/8" filler to build it out.

more to look at. Besides the bodywork, i also put 10.5 volt glow plugs, NGK 7493 Y-147T, into the 2H. That didn't seem to resolve the overheating of the glow controller coil however. I will re-focus again on the electrical snags soon enough, but right now i'm concentrating on the body filler work. I'm giving myself until the end of the month to finish the 9 panels, and then another 15 days to do the tub and upper cab.

I also pulled the clutch and brake masters, and the pedal bucket from the firewall.

Hi HJ.

I made a mental note to post a photo of "my glow controller coil glowing" as soon as I got my vehicle back together enough to be able to fire it up safely. So here is that photo:

Hope it is useful to you.

Gidday,Have been following your build an its looks like it is coming together nicely for you.I have a HJ47 and am planning to do a complete rebuild, at the moment I don't have a lot of time so I am trying to source as many parts as possible I like the oem stuff but some of it is hard to find!In post number 72 you have a radiator overflow bottle cap with hoses that are from Australia Maybe you got the last one because my local dealer says there are none in OZ maybe Japan?I was wondering which dealer you went through here as mine isnt very reliable. There were thousands of these things sold here in OZ so its hard to believe that most of the oem stuff I have got has come from USA The stuff here they tell me is no longer available, or so over priced.Regards Shamus

That looks like a cherry red sort of glow to me, not a dull red. And the wire coil doesn't melt eh?

I'm waiting to see what the controller I have obtained in Japan looks like - I'm hoping for a thick wire that will work with my set up (if it's working properly and I'm not sure that it is).

Hi Shamus,

the company I have obtained parts from is 4x4parts and the contact is David Porter : davidp[at]4wdparts[dot]com[dot]au
He's been helpful and the service prompt.

It is getting pretty hard to get some parts - I find about 8 out of 10 parts I'm chasing are obsolete. It could well be that I got one of the last radiator bottles if there are no more in Oz. David Porter can check with Japanese to see if the parts are available, and he will bring them in for you if he can find them.

At least you have tons of used ones to draw upon in your country, and i imagine they turn up at the wreckers here and there. You'd never see a 40 series at a wrecker around where I live, not to mention something as exotic as a 45 series.

Yes. It's certainly way hotter than a "dull red" and it has always glowed that hot HJ.

I shudder when I think of it sitting for 20 minutes like that! (That area of the dash was too hot to touch and there was a distinct burning smell!)
