TSLs, I don't like boggers. TSLs do the job (!) here in the Northeastern US on the rocks and dirt. I don't do my mud...

lol. i just liked t he aggresiveness of the bogger. im glad i didnt get them but.
So today i got the back of the troopy cut off and start fixing the end in. also me and me old boy hooked all the brake lines up.

I'm really liking this build, partly because its local and I'd like to see it on ( and off) the road. I'm keen to see how you go woth getting it all engineered and look forward to seeing it progress. Keep up the good work.

thanks mate. one of the main points of building it is so i dont need to trailer it around. the engineer is happy with my work and should be getting it modplated next week. so fingers crossed. heres some pics of the tray and a flex shot. travel is pretty useless coz of the 2inch heavy duty bilstein kit the previous owner had in it. its stiff as. :bang:

been a while since posting. im getting a bit done. ive got the cabin partly together to see how it looks. just starting to get into the panelwork. i made a rear batterbox will get photos of that up soon. and a space for 2 jerry cans. made my seats fit after a bit of fiddling around with lowering the tracks. raised my collum up 25mm makes a hell off a difference!. engineer is coming sunday to inspect and hopefully give me my mod plates for cabin, chassis, seats, fuel tank and turbo. i picked up a new arb locker for rear off fleebay. also trying to find some ideas for my front bar. i will be mounting a hi mount and ive seen a few done. anyone got any pics for me of one done? heres some pics anyway...

enjoy:D

Sorry I missed this question a ways back in your thread. No it wasn't hard to mount the 1HZ into the 40. It is a tight fit though. I wish I had your skills with a torch, no I didn't do it myself. There is a good 4x4 mod shop here and they did the work with me being a nervous nellie present everyday watching the process. :o Try to get it to sit as far back and close to the firewall as you can you will need the few extra centimeters up front not just to mount the rad but to give the fan some room to flex as well as space for extras in the future, in my case an A/C rad and a rad for an air to water intercooler.
Keep in mind that all of this was mounting a 1HZ into a 40 series engine bay and onto a stock 40 series chassis. While you are sliding it into a 40 series engine bay, you may have some additional room to play with depending on what you are doing with the panel work, that is if you are lengthening the 40 series body in any way to fit over the 80 series chassis.
In addition to Project X( Gary) writeup, the guys at Iron Pig Offroad did this 40 series body on an 80 series chassis as well. Last another writeup to check out with lots of detail was crusher's writeup on installing a 1HZ into a 40 series engine bay. Lot's of pics of the pesky details and their solutions.
Good luck,
John

I don't suppose you are ever in South Australia or Tasmania? I'd LOVE to see this thing when it's all done and dusted.

Out of curiosity, what do you reckon labour would cost for this conversion if you were to do it for someone else?

gday josh.

im never down that far lol i might do a road trip !
as for the cost of doing this. i really would have no idea! the amount of work in these things is crazy. theres no way i could afford to put it into someone for them to do it.

thanks for the info volcanocruiser. i ended up gettin a spark around to hook it up. ive driven it around the house and it runs sweet as!. ill post up a video of what it sounds like:D
im just having a break from working on it. ive fitted a 81 hilux fuel tank to it and ive had to cut out the fuel filler on the cabin and move it to the passeneger side. just tidying it up now for the engineer tomorrow;p update and pics soon

Are you going to put a second tank in? I reckon the original troopy filler door would make a nice second tank.

Are you having a sparkie do all your electrics? Your engineers must be nicer than they are down here. They won't approve anything here unless it was done by them or by someone they recommend.

Josh

nah just going to run the one hilux tank. pretty limited for room unless i get a custom made tank. i got engineers approval today. so now its officially a 1991 80 series landcruiser!:hillbilly: weird eh. as for electrics i just got a auto elec mate to come and hook it all up. all gauges work. even the 40 speedo cable works in the 80 box! just for engineers approval cost me $650 but thats for chassis, cabin, seats, steering, turbo and chassis cut. im glad its all passed

put all the front together the other day. lots of messing around as i cut the cabin back about 70mm on the bottom. i welded 50x50 cold roll gal angle on the inside near the flutes, then bolted the guard to it its solid as im adding 140mm into the width of the guard. i didnt want to cover the tyre completely so im gunaa run a little rubber flare on it .
