Looking sweet

Things are starting to get exciting. I enjoy putting everything back so much more than taking it apart and cleaning it! I was able to get the steering box reinstalled with the upgraded 105 sector shaft and have the tie rod sitting in place but need to flip the ends on the tie rod. I also started installing the new DBA calipers and pads and the Slee stainless steel braided brake lines that go from the axle to the calipers. Last, finally got all the pins, plugs, and seals in for the new short block so I can start putting it together soon.

Pro tip install the rear main seal retaining pins and bell housing guide pins before putting the new short block on the engine stand. Nice work you are dumping a ton of effort and moneys into these builds it’s gonna be sweet!!!

great work, Slee's instructions show the brake hoses routeing to the inside at the banjo like the factory hoses and not to the outside. might double check that, there is no post on the slee hoses to stop it from rotating like factory does.

Good call out! Thank you!

Only took a week to get the entire brake system replaced including all new Slee braided lines to the calipers and stainless steel braided extended brake lines. My Motive power bleeder should be here tomorrow, and already have my replacement bleeder cap and hope to get my brake system bled and back operational so the 80 can at least be a roller.

I also bought the LCP HD Sway Bar kit but did not realize that if you have the side mount sway bar brackets, you have to use nutserts to move to the under frame mounted bracket. Anyone know what the proper size nutsert is for this application and do I use the same bolts for this as the side mounted brackets are held on with?

After a few trips to the store, I had everything I needed to put the nutserts in. Who knew a 7/16 drill bit was not in any of the standard drill bit sets. I checks 4 different sets and did not have one. BUT, I did not discover I did not have one until after I had ran to the store for the nutserts and went to install and had to make another trip to the store for the drill bit. But I finally got the LCP Severe Duty Rear Sway Bar mounts and links installed. I have to wait until I get the axle off the jacks to finish installing the new sway bar. I also got the inside ready for carpet by adding the foam to the entire floor and the rear quarter panels. Once the last 4 pieces of the body mount kit arrive I can put the carpet back in.

Looking great it going to be nice.
I wish I would have see your post sooner
Based on the hyper suspension you installed I assume this rig will get wheeled ?
While the nutsetts work it’s better to just to weld that bracket on especially on rigs that get wheeled.
In that situation the bracket is only riding on the small surface of the nutserts.
You can actually see between the bracket and the frame.

Yes this rig is a purpose built wheeling rig. I thought about welding the brackets, but after my last episode of welding I know I need more practice. I upgraded my power from 110 to 220 and going to get some shielding gas. I also plan on getting some welding coupons and will spend some time practicing before I weld on the frame again, LOL. The plan is to get the rig up and rolling and running, and then work on my welding skills.

Did you source your Superior Engineering parts directly from Australia or did you find a dealer here in the States?

Time to kick this thing in gear. I am past ready to get this new short block out of the box and on the stand! Started by getting the old engine stripped down. Found that one of the oil cooler studs was broken inside the block. The nut would spin but the stud would not come out. I had to weld the nut on to get the stud out and the oil cooler off.

Dude that 80 is aging you 🤣
It was bound to happen soon or later. Destroying a second 80 in less than ten years and the subsequent efforts that have been required to “get back to normal” have caused a train load of stress. This project is behind time and way over budget!
