Put reference paint marks on the hardware, that way you know at a glance if one is moving or not. I started seeing this in the old car/racing scene but know quite a few off roaders that also use this method.

Just read your last post, hope everything works out, I know you have put a lot of time into this and the truck is looking good.

I usually do use the paint reference marks. I learned this trick when doing maintenance on my tractor tires and loader bolts, but for some reason did not put it to practice on this 80. Probably because my paint markers were out at camp with the tractor, but no excuse because they are cheap and good insurance.

I ended up spending most of the day yesterday pressure washing the driveway and the house so did not put any work in on the 80. I hope to swap out the ECM's one night this week to see if there is a difference.

I have struggled with this one because it is a 94 and an OBD-1 truck. When the harness is connected fully, there is no Check Engine Light. My assumption is that if there is no CEL, then there is no code as well, so I have not checked for codes. My logic here may be flawed, so if someone knows for sure there could be codes and not have a CEL, let me know.

Mine is a 94 as well. After driving them for a while you get a feel for when it isn't running the same as usual. I will pull codes if the truck seems to be running "weird" even if no dash light. This is just me because it is an easy process and how the computer is in ours (removing codes automatically) I use it as a feel good measure.

In all honesty I think throughout the years I have only ever seen it show one code without a light and it was for the evap system IIRC.

Keep at it, you are doing great and have a lot to be proud of. I know the small hiccups usually outweigh the major achievements (that is just how most humans function).
